Sorry I can't help you with the actual #. However, I got mine at Autozone (yeah, I know). I had to ask for one designated for an 88 Thunderbird T/C, even though it was for the SVO.

Pep boys has them, that's where mine came from. Mr. Gasket has a really good one.

      The car stays way cooler.

        180 thermostat

        Thanks guys.

I ordered one yesterday. I have been wanting to change mine out for a while now. 195 might be fine for emissions but I thisnk its to high for my comfort level especially combined with when the fan comes on in the SVO.

          Thermostat

          Cudd-

Are you wanting to use this 180 Degree t-stat because of the hotter, summer heat? I aquired my SVO in October of last year and don't remember the fan coming on, (maybe because it was late fall/winter time)and the engine temperature was always cool. My SVO has been going thru a major maintennace job since January and I haven't driven it in the warmer weather. Does the fan come on a lot? I've opted for a 4 row radiator for some of the reasons you've listed, and thought that this might give me some "extra" protection. I've heard that the SVO likes to run (runs good) at the 195 temperature. Would changing the t-stat to a 180 degree mess with the control systems?
Thanks for your post Cudd - You've spurred my curiosity - Sorry I don't have a part # for a 180 degree stat for you.
Does anyone else have any opinions?

            180 Thermostat

            8T6,

THe summer heat is part of it but I just like the idea of a cooler running engine. The car seems to make very good power when the engine temp is cool (I am not saying I see a decrease in power when warm).

I have heard that a 160 thermostat (ran one in my 88 5.0) is to cold and will cause the computer to wig out but have been told a 180 is o.k.

No the fan doesnt come on a lot but I beleive part of that is becuase the temo has to get so high first. I am seriously thinking about getting an adjustable fan controller to manually set my fan turn on temp.

I am also going to be doing a complete coolant flush this weekend.

              FYI on the fan

Just to put in my 2 cents, you can manually hookup your fan to come on with a toggle switch as explained on one of these forums somewhere. My 85 svo seems to run between cool and warm always but i do have to admit, it takes a looong time for the fan to come on even in higher temp weather. The needle is pretty much at the red line when the fan finally comes on. IS this normal? IM going to put in one of those toggle switches for manually turning on the fan between runs at the track.

also, ive been looking through ebay and i keep coming across these dual fans that i guess the T/C had? anyone know anything about this? Could i hook up a dual fan conversion to my svo that i guess came from a t/c?

                T/C Fans

Yes the T/C Fans will bolt right into the SVO (so I am told). How to wire them to work properly is beyond me.
