  • Fuzzy dash

We spent a few hrs today and tracked down the original supplier for Ford for the fuzzy dash. I am just testing the watters to see if they are interested in doing a run for us. I was asked how many peices we would need and I am realy not sure. Since the Dash itself is obsolete and these wil have to be dismantled to be done according to the mfg i am unsure of the outcome. I have a few here to test but is there any interest in this service?

please post if there is any interest.

I would be intersted, but price will play a factor in my decision. What is the tentative charge for the service?

So they'll re-fuzz our existing dash panels? I'm interested. My bartender said he'd only do fuzzy navels.

I'm sure anyone with a SVO would be interested in this service - but the bottomline is 'what's the bottomline?' ie: cost?

                      Cost

On the first 2 conversations i had, the mfg wouldnt talk cost at all. I personally dont want to see the cost of this above 100 but it all depends. the Mfg wanted to know quantity first and then he wanted me to do the prep (Ie take out the vents and lexan) before he even takes it to his production staff for a quote. He did confirm that he was one of the 2? (he thinks) did this work originally. I will be talking more on monday. I just wanted to know if I said like 25- sets at a time to see if they will do that few. This company is not into small run work at all. If we had new parts availabe that would be easy to arrange but coming up with 100 plus people to send their pannels in first and at one time, preped would probably kill it for me. I am just trying to figure out where to start talking as far as numbers go with the mfg. So please dont get too excited yet. I am just testing the waters. if it is not feasable we will see where we can go from there. but if I dont ask the questions we will never know for sure. I know I would like to have mine redone but I cant speak for the majority, and from the searches and threads going round and round and round I figured i would check it out.

Thanks for the imput all. I will keep you updated as things go allong.

Does it have to be an original SVO panel or can they "fuzzy" a regular plastic panel?
If they can, people can keep their originals, and getting a bunch ready for a run would not be as difficult just goto the wreckers

                        I am intrested

                        Thanks

                            Rob2000 beat me to it.

If you get quotes for 25 sets (that would be 50 parts) and then a handfull of us in different parts of the country hit the JY's for useable non-SVO cores, we won't have to have our dashes torn down while they're being done. We could just figure the core charge in on the price and/or credit those who provide core towards their dash purchase. There also would be a greater quantity of nicer used fuzzy dashes available for trickle down to those who need them.

I like the core charge idea Pat, so I'll probably try to figure something out that is not too much, but enough of an incentive to make sure we are actually getting returns. We are having that problem with injectors - and that core isn’t exactly cheap.

As for good non SVO panels - non GT ones should work and actually be way less labor intensive for us. I don't recall if there is any "texture" or visual treatments on the plain panels like the fake allen bolts of the GT's, but even so it would be far easier to fill and flatten than to de-fuzzy a panel.

As far as cost is concerned, volume will make a difference. Our time in prep has to be considered, but that changes if Pat's idea flys. I’d like to see the “Service” cost no more than $75 and out-right purchases be around the $150 range, but I’m probably dreaming.

Bottom line is we need to keep it reasonable to make it feasible, and we'll do our best
