  • Homemade light covers

I finally finished a project I cave been working on. On my 86 even though I had new headlights I installed 84-85 style with euro H4 Hella lights and 55/100W bulbs. WAY better lighting and pattern. I got a rock chip in one so I looked around for readlight covers to no avail. I bought some clear Lexan and made my own. They tuck in between the facia and marker lights. They turned out ok and stay put up to 100mph. Kinda hard to heat it and bend in the right places with the heat gun.

      Very interesting.

I love to see a pic of one not mounted to the car.

              GTS

90LX86svo, don't mean to sound like a know it all but GTS makes both clear and smoke covers for early SVOs with recessed headlights. They put a rubber strip around the lense and is held with some 90degree plastic velcro. Pricey though, i think i paid $60 for my smoked ones and all i got was a friggin piece of black plexiglass. Your homemade one are prob. a better/cheaper solution.

                Flush lights

What i really expected them to be were covers like on 87-93 foxbodied where they cover the entire 6 front light, turn signals an all and kinda hug them to mount, no drilling or tape needed. I guess they (GTS) don't make some like that but i BET they would sell if they did. It would make early SVOs have that flush headlight look. Maybe something you... might be interested in fabricating? You know what i mean?

I had the lexan laying around so I figured why not? I never really liked the velcro thing. These tuck in between the vertical part of the bumper cover and the inner and outer lights. Once I got I chip im my high dollar light I wanted to do something about it. I looked at trying to go all the way around but there was not really anything to connect to. Here are a couple more in better light.

Very cool! I like DIY solutions.

Now, if ya don't mind me asking, what technique did you use to facilitate bending the lexan? A propane torch? The bends look nice & tight!

If you choose to keep your trade secret private I'd understand too.

I used a heat gun, a 2x4, angle iron and a couple of squeeze clamps. I did not waste to much.
