  • Stubborn fog on windsheild

Every morning now that i've installed my new T3/T4 with watercooled CHRA, when i get into my car there is fog right above the two vents on the dash on the windsheild right in my and pass. view. Turn on the defrost both on heat and cold (no A/C hooked up) and the fog just will not go away, takes like 20mins or more of driving for it to finally clear up. It has been a little more humid now here in the bay but i've never remember it being this bad. I even had to remove my dash mat to make sure defrost air gets to the glass. I tried wiping it with a dry cloth and the fog seems to not wipe away like humidity would, kinda smears.

Also, while driving to work the last few days i've been noticing some steam kinda comes out the dash vents that blow in your face. Its kinda scarry, not sure if i should do something. Seems to get worse when im driving hard. Turn on the heater on high real fast and then turn off, kinda goes away??? Kinda smells sweet, coolant? WTF is going on im my heater?

Check the passenger side floor carpet for dampness (antifreeze). You may need a heater core.

      Yup... Heater core is bad.

Replace it now before it pukes all over you passenger side carpet.
Replacing it is not a fun job, btw.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

Heater core??? DAMN! I was dreading the day i would have to do it. When i was going through my receipts from prevous owner, found one that said it was replaced in 99. There's no coolant on the floor or leaking for that matter, you think i should bypass it for the time being so it won't completely go? DAMN!

            CA try NY

Why do you need heat in CA?

Just found the easiest way to do the heater core. when there is no windsheild in the car it is a cake walk. you dont have to be a circus freek to do the job.

              heater usage

Don't really need the heater other than juyst to defrost the windsheild in early cold mornings and being that i live a few blocls from the marina gives out a lot of humidity so... it is kinda cold in mornings. Anyway, ill look around procedure on the replacement but i coulda sworn i read somewhere recently on an easier method of doing it other than the old fashion way.

Oh well, back to working on my SVO again

                Do yourself a favor

When you finally decide replace it, use a good one (buy one that's made in the USA - got my 2nd one from Napa). It's twice the price of the cheap ones that you can get in the discount auto parts stores. But take my advice, replacing the heater core twice in the same car is definetly no fun.

                    OK you asked for it.

Like I said pat if you check out the site you will see how riped apart the silver turd is right now. When we got it the heater core was missing one of its tubes. With the windsheild out you can do almost the entire job standing outside the car. Man can I tell you it is almost worth it to remove the windsheild (providing you have the tools and the knowhow,) Especially taking out thoes 4 screws on top of the dash.

I guess that while my car is apart and there is no windsheild in it, I should replace the heater core and the evaporator core??

now I know how ford put the damn thing in. I always suspected that the heater core was just hanging in the air and the built the car arround it.

A very interesting concept. But how do you explain the other items that are almost as difficult to access??

No, but I thought that Ford built the car around the other items.
