  • Speaker kick panels

I want to install some speakers on my kick panels but don't want to hack up my stock panels plus the sizes i want to run are bigger than can fit. I've seen that Q-Logic makes some prefabbed kick panels that house a 4.5" midrange plus a tweeter at an angle that i really like. Does anyone have these in their SVOs? Wheres the cheapest i can order from that you guys have seen.

Also, my buddy has an 85 and some jack@$$ installed speakers in the doorpanel and used a grill from a newer fox but i don't like the fact that the door panel is now ruined. What is your guys' feelings on this?

I had a similar issue on mine.. the previous owner had speakers on the door, above and towards the rear of the arm rest!! Now I have the giant holes in the door panel since I've completely removed the sound system (and miles of wiring!) I keep thinking I should replace the panels, but figure it's not worth it.

If you can avoid cutting the door panels, you'll be happier later if you decide to return it to all original.

I would'nt hack up your door panels. But you could get some used kick panels from another Stang and save the original ones if thats your concern. But then again if its a nicely done install it would'nt really matter if you used the original kick panels or not, they are not a hard to find item. Sounds like a cool idea either way. You can never have enough tunage for some classic Barry White!

I've been wondering how hard these door panels are to find. I also had some PO hack the doorpanels on mine, but get this - just one! I have a speaker in the pass door panel, and none in the driver side. Sounds really crappy! So I hate to hack up an otherwise unmolested doorpanel by putting a matching speaker in the driver's side, but they do seem to come up for sale fairly frequently. Still, I figure someday these things will be rare, and then I'll be kicking myself.

I wonder if the molded kickpanels get in the way of your feet on the driver's side. They don't black the deadpedal, do they?

That sucks a/b your door panel. Its amazing what some people do. but I'm with you a/b not hackin' up the other one. A kick panel, no big deal though. As far as blockin' the dead foot pedal..dont know. Depends on how big of a speaker you use.

            speakers.

the j/o that put the stereo in my(now) 86 comp car put little bitty speakers in the dash vent tubes behind the registers. what a goat f--- that was to get them out and back in. luckily he didnt chop the door panels. also he enlarged the speaker holes in the back panels. but again luckily the original speaker screens covered them(barely).

The molded pannels from JBL (not sure if still available) do interfear with the dead pedal. if you are modding a stock kick pannel you should be fine but your leg will lose its hearing.

Jim Wheland at Motion Dynamics has a nice set of SVO door panels with speaker holes already cut in the if that is an option for you.

Since I'm looking for the cheapest way out, I might look for a set of regular mustang doorpanels to put speakers in, and save my SVO doorpanels (at least the good one) for putting it back to stock later.

Yeah, i wouldn't want to cut any holes in my panels no matter how tempting it is, sure will sound nice with a crossover though.

As fas as hacking up the stock kickpanels, i really don't want to put a speaker magnet right near the ECM, i think thats what fried my old PJ in the first place. I found this website with some custom kick panels i was talking about, i wonder if they work for SVOs (says 87-93). Honestly, i can live with the dead pedal being blocked although it does come in handy when making hard rights. BTW, i found this site that doesn't show the image of the kick panels but advertises them for cheaper than that prevous site. Anyone have a any pics of them in a SVO or any other setup.

Also, any pics for subs in the trunk along with amps and capacitors, i would like to get some ideas.
