OK...I did a search and found lots of good info, but I have one question that I did not see an obvious answer to. If I want to switch to a better exhaust and want to add a 3 in downpipe, will it bolt straight up to the elbow or do I need to buy something else or have something made? I read about wastegates and stuff, but to be honest, I'm not sure if I needed any modifications beyond having them put the exhaust on and making it fit up to the elbow. I was planning to take it to the shop tomorrow and I wanted to make sure I knew what I was talking about when I get there. Thanks again in advance.

Depends
The sac mustang pipes will bolt right up to the stock elbow. If you are going custome get the short one. if you are using a cat back system on an 85.5 or 86 get the long one. ATR you will have to remove the stock wastegate and probably break a few bolts in the process. it depends on your pain threshold.
LOL
Edit"
I reread your post and to be honest if you have a compitent shop they could remove the end from your stock pipe and mate it to a new pipe. Basically that is how the sac mustang pipe is made.Last edited by NY eric; 11-16-2004, 05:49 PM.Confucius says" a closed mouth gathers no foot"

I was out driving the ole SVO today and the muffler fell off. So I finnaly had a 3" exhaust system installed or atleast to the muffler after that is just 2.5". I did this because my shop couldn't mandural bend pipes and I'm going to order some bent in "u" mandurals. Anyways since I wasn't planning on doing this just yet, I didn't have a down pipe. The shop made a really nice pice that works great. The car is so much more fun now and almost like learning to drive it all over again
