  • Rear quarter panels??

    Guys,

Some idiot hit my baby and the body shop says the need to replace the right rear quarter panel at the seems just the way ford put the car together. As much as this makes me nervous, it sound like the right thing to do since I hate bondo!
    My question is:
Are the rear quarter panels on the SVO the same as other mustangs or are the SVO specific since we have the SVO sail panels? I want my car fixed the right way and not pasted back together or done wrong to devalue the car further.

    Thanks,
    Brian

There should be no difference as the rear bumper and cover are generic too. The sail panels bolt on. The trim moulding (bodyside) is of course different and could be tricky to reinstall. There are I think 3 holes that will have drilled for the spat. It's a big job to replace but it is the right way to do it. Just don't let them use short cuts like chopping up the panel or using pop rivets. Mig welding is the only approved method of attaching. Spot welding like the factory usually is not practical at body shops. Use good quality paints. Any body filler will shrink months later and show up as m inor flaws. Watch out for poor quality aftermarket panels if they even make them. Good luck

      Quarter Panel-ectomy

Just had the driver's side quarter replaced on my 86 with a used quarter at Golden West in Hayward. They put a seam running up the lower edge of the C pillar (about 6-8" long) and used the factory joints everywhere else. Yours will be slightly more difficult as you will have the fuel filler area to contend with.
