  • Just took delivery of 2nd SVO

I just took delivery of my 2nd SVO and i have a couple quick questions for you all.
It's a Silver '86 with 89XXX and she seems just as fun as my '84 with 130XXX on her. But when I drove the 86, when I hoped on her and the boost went to 12 psi (yellow line) She made a loud vibration and seemed to just not like it. Is this "compressor surge" that I have seen in other posts here? Are the ways to correct this adjustable boost valve and wastegate? I never ran into this with my'84 she just kept going till about 14 psi then just stayed there.

    Thanks for any help

are you sure it's not some kind of exhaust type problem??

Actually, if it is compressor surge, you need a blowoff, or bypass valve, but you dont normally get surge until you let off the gas.

Do you have any info on what has been done to the car? If someone did a home-rebuild on the turbo, and the shaft wasn't balanced (for some reason) it might cause something like this.

BTW: I dislike you very much:because :: I want another one, but I just cant do it right now... (no garage)

Awww Eric please don't be mad at me. Buying this car just means I'm gonna be single for another 4 more years.
I did get alot of the service history for the car so I'll look at the reciepts and see what's up. The previous owner did mention some work to the turbo when he had it so there should be something in the folder he gave me. I'll let you know.

aahhh.. it's not actually you that i'm mad at...

Just the timing.. i found the car, 2 days ago.. and I'm wanting it!!!
If only I could find someone to go to new-mexico and bring it back to KY for me (free of charge of course)

Paul mentioned we should try the SVO handoff... someone pick up, and members just shuffle it down until it gets to me

here is the thread on the car...
the details I have heard on it sound like it would be a fun toy to put back together

since I can't get it, I hope another member does

but just too many other things going on..

Congratz on getting your second one.. I'm GREEN with envy!!!

Thanks for the kind words and sorry for your recent color change.
I bought the car off eBay and it was well documented low mileage and delivered to my parents house. Now I know some people don't like eBay, but I have found a lot of cool stuff like liturature, toys and some parts I have needed cheap there.
I am not a fan of parting out good cars though, and have stayed away from certain people there. I have used some of the venders on this and other pages with good luck so far.
A road trip sounds like a good vacation and I would not only be saving an SVO but helping someone with the same crazy love for these cars that I have.
          MMMMMM.....
