  • Stereo install

I did a quick search, and couldn't find an answer, so.....

Is there awiring adapter to plug into the stock wiring harness to install a new CD player?

    What about block off plates?

I have the dash apart doing HVAC repairs, so I figured I would do some upgrades to include CD and XM radio.

I want to buy the stuff and install myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I have an after market CD player in my SVO, prolly a/b 1year old. But the plug was already cut off be fore the install. But you can check with any stereo shop to see if there may be some type off adaptor. My car had an after market player when I bought the car 5 years ago so there may be adaptors now. You can get a universal mounting kit so you can custom fit he radio into the dash without modifing it. Its pretty easy to install a radio as all the wires are labeled to where they go. Good luck!

They used to be available (back in the day) through JC Whitney or Crutchfield. Ask them to check in the attic.....

Plugs are available to interface with the stock harness and plugs WITHOUT cutting anything! Go by a large car stereo retailer that does install and they shold have what you need. You may need to talk to the guy in the back who does the actual installs.

As for block off plates. Are you looking for the factory (NOS or Repro) block off plates that were used on the option delete and comp prep cars? Or are you just looking for a mounting plate to go in the dash for the new unit?

They make a kit. Check with a stereo shop. You should be able to get everything you need there. But if you havent bought your radio yet, it may be easier to have it installed. Installation is usally included in the price of the radio.

I have a fear of those "places".

While I was getting the XM radio installed in my truck, I watched the guys put a stereo in another car. There was beating, banging and swearing.

I evidently had the guy who cared that the vehicle Owner was observing, and the hack was working on the other car.

Plus since I have the dash taken apart I figured what the heck...

When I bought mine, it had been cutout for a single din once in the past, but there was no stereo. The kit is available thru Crutchfield (I believe), but I just bought some sheet Aluminum from Lowe's and cut a plate to fit around the stereo on the outside. You can push the tabs from the stereo frame out to secure it in the dash if you cut the hole for a tight fit. The Aluminum is basicly a piece of trim to cover the gap around the radio. I haven't painted it yet, but it looks pretty good raw. If the dash isn't cut up yet, I would suggest you go with a stereo with the knobs on each side and install a changer. That way, if you ever decide (or someone else) to put a factory original stereo in it, you can do it. I would've done that if mine hadn't been butchered up already.

There's a picture of my interior here. You can't see the radio very well, but its the only picture I have right now.
