  • who makes good Mufflers

As a lot of you read, my SVO is running now!!

The engine sounded great, and my 3" downpipe hooked up nicely. My issue is, while my mufflers dont look too bad, when I started the engine, they were leaking like crazy!! aparently the back ends are rusted out of them.

with 125k miles on it, it still has the original mufflers on it, and I actually like the sound of them.

Anyone know if there is anything close, that will still breath good?
I do like to drive my car on the highway from time to time, and I don't want anything all that loud.

Since I do have 3" up to the Y pipe, I will most likely be going with dual 2.5" setup. I gotta have my duals!

    Any recomendations ??

Dynomax bullits......oh wait, no noise right..?

I had the regular Dynomax 2.5 cat0back kit on my car for the longest time and i like it, not loud but a smooth sound.

I think that boat anchor MAC 3-inch of mine is comin off soon if ya ever re-think waking up the neighbors....

I have Flowmaster Deltaflows and I like them. I know the popular opion about chambered mufflers, but i've had nothing but good performance from these (street use only, no race use). They give a good throatty sound at idle, you can here the turbo thru them and according to others, they are loud outside the car when you step on the gas, but realy don't hear anything overbearing or obnoxious inside the car.

I've heard that the welded dynomax ones (can't remember the name right now) flow better than the flowmasters on a turbo engine. I think it is because the flowmasters "scavenge" the air using the engine pulses, while the air coming from a turbo is smoother.

I had the same experience as lonchair with flowmasters. I had a set of two chambers on mine and they sounded great. I know and that chambered mufflers are not good for a turbo car, but my SVO definitly picked up power with them. I guess that little 2.3 just does not put out enough exhaust for it to matter. Plus, flowmaster tailpipes fit beautifully compared to other brands on the market.

Currently I am using the Edelbrock Performer cat back 5.0 system adapted to my SVO. The sound is good, and they offer nearly straight through mufflers. Unfortunatley the tailpipes do not fit well, the stailess has a very dull finish, and they are cut off at too shallow an angle. I think some flowmaster tailpipes are in my immediate future.

              I`ll second the Borla`s.

I bought a system from Rapido many moons ago for an 86 that I had ( still wish I had it ). I honestly was a little disappointed though... It was marginaly louder than stock and the highway cruising was more than acceptable. Disappointed by the way, because I wanted it louder

Oh, and a Borla resides on my current car also, albeit a 3.5" monster

ahhh.. the borla was one of the mufflers I wanted to hear about!

are you guys talking about the stainless one ?

Recoil: on that Eldebrock, you say the sound is good. Loudness is really hard to decsribe on the internet, but "how loud is it?"

I've heard the flowmasters, and they do sound good, and aren't too loud. They are a option for sure.

I drive a hour to work every day, and altho my SVO wont be making that trip very often, I will drive it from time to time. (read: easy break in miles!) I do want to be able to drive it on the interstate without hearing protection

I am running the MAC Flowpaths and the most asked question I get is what mufflers am I running. They are not obnoxious but are on the louder end of the spectrum. Another option is a muffler I sell from Powertone....a work of art is an understatement! These are polished stainless, seamless! mufflers that are on the quieter end of the spectrum and flow great! I'll take a picture of one and post it here....its ashame that they have to sit under the car...lol.

I think I am going to give a set of the powertone's a try.

They sound like what I am looking for!

I'll write up a product review once I get them done, to let everyone know what I think. I'll try to get some pics, and possibly even a audio clip to attach!!

                    Thanks all!

Welll... It's been a while now and I am going with a 3" downpipe, 3" converter into dual 2.5" MAC chrome tails, however I can't decide what mufflers to go with... That audio clip sure sounds like a good idea! (hint-hint)
