I just bought some 97 cobra wheels with 255/40/17 toyos.I had some rubbing in the back but no problem with the front so far.Any tips on fender rolling would be helpful.Thanks,BigO

I had to do it on LX. Get a 4lb mini sledge. Take the wheel off and support the car. From the 12 o'clock position you need to roll from 10 o'clock to the 2 o'clock position. Start at either 10 or 2 and gently strike the edge in an upward motion. You want just the edge to start to bend. Move forward a little bit at a time, keeping you hand on the oppisite side. Keep going back and forth, back and forth until you get the desired roll. The top part on mine has a 180 deg. roll. This takes a long time, about an hour per side or more. People talk about cutting slits then rolling it bit that will usually dimple the outer part of the fender. I can take pictures if you want to see the results. One other thing, you might want to scribe the paint about 1/4 inch from the outside so the paint will crease along the scribe instead of cracking.

easy way
In the latest eastwood catalog they had a real trick deal that attached to your lugs and had an arm with a roller on it. You just increased the pressure on the roller against the fender lip as you rolled it through the arc. Not sure how it works on all applications but it looked cool. but so does thoes hats that hold 2 beers.

One other helpful hint from the obsessive one : When I rolled the lips on my coupe I first scrubbed / cleaned and degreased the underside of the wheel lip and entire wheel well. After letting it dry completely I spread a thin coat of seam sealer under the lip and let that dry. I then rolled the lip(s) until they were absolutely flat with the wheel house. I then taped off and sprayed rubberized undercoating to finish the entire wheel well. That way no moisture or dirt can ever get in behind the rolled lip to rust it out. My $0.02 + $0.02 = $0.04 Edit : I also used the short handled 5 lb. sledge. It's a pretty good work out...Last edited by Ken Potter; 12-17-2004, 01:47 PM.

Well, I haven't done it an SVO yet, but I did this procedure on my 90 LX and I learned some lessons.
Don't try it why you're in a hurry.
Don't try it when you're angry.
I did the slotted the lip method.
Don't use pliers to bend the tabs. Bad idea. Use the hammer.
I ended up just using a saber saw and cut the lip (looking a the face of the rim from 10 to 2:00) off completely
. I smoothed the edge with a sanding roll and an air die grinder. I then touched up the paint afterwards
I tried usig a base-ball bat to "roll the fender" & that didn't work for crap.
On Monster garage, with the Lincoln Continental open road race car, he used a 2" dia pipe, placed it behind the tire in the wheel well, and then slowly drove the car forward to roll the lip. Its a two person job that way.

After many hours and blisters attempting to gently persuade the lip w/a 2-3" dia steel pipe, I went to my friend the sledge hammer. He was was much more persuasive that Mr. Pipe. The paint is already shot on mine, so I wasn't worried about it.
Whatever method you use, try to clean off anything sitting on the lip b/c it will get caught there like Ken said. I had 20 years of dirt and mud. The project turned out to be great towards weight reduction too!
