  • 3" dp into stock Y?

    is this a good idea?

i just purchased a 3" DP and plan on going catless. but should I go ahead and buy a 2.5" y pipe and mufflers? I have 2 1/4 flowmaster 40's on it already (my stock ones were rusted through, all the muffler shop would put on in my price range)

so would the rest of my system be good enough, or is it almost mandatory to get the 2.5" system?

remember you are talking to a HS kid making payments on two cars, and is strapped for cash.

and if I need to search let me know. no need for flaming.

3 inch downpipe with a dual 2 1/2 inch exhaust with no cat and some good mufflers is a good system. Kinda difficult to mandrel bend 3 inch pipe over the diff. especially dual 3 inch and especially if planning to lower car. Get some good mufflers too, some flowthrough type. Get rid of the restrictive a$$ gaymaster muffs and get some magnaflows or Edelbrock RPMs, they are like a newer version of glasspacks. Flowthrough well deaden sound quite well.

If your tail pipes and mufflers are good, there is no need to change them right now. I ran around for a long time with the same basic setup you are talking about-worked fine for me. As far as mufflers go, I currently have flowmaster delta flows on my car and they are not going to be a performance killer until you have done quite a bit of stuff to your motor. Besides they are less restrictive than your stock mufflers were and sound better than "turbo" mufflers.
