  • nice looking exhaust

just got svo #1 painted, a nice deep black, got some nice chrome cobra wheels, and i wanted some nice looking exhaust tips or just muffler back....chrome, or just silver, stainless steel, whatever. i wanted tips that would go back as far as the tire is so the rest of the tips wouldn't show whn looking at the side of car, i hate to see chrome tips that give up befor the tire starts...
2 QUESTIONS, does anyone know what mustang applications applications work for the dual svo...or maybe where i can get some nice ones specifically for the svo, or maybe just some other input, thanks

Someone else smarter then me will probably chime in here, but I believe you can go with the exhaust set-up that was available for 85/86 5-liters.

You biggest issue will be finding the correct Y-pipe to connect after the cat. Check with a couple of muffler/exhaust shops and they should be able to help you out.

As far as finding chrome, stainless tail pipes, that is easy. I'm willing to bet that just about any fox-body application will work.

You didn't mention what year SVO you're working on. If it is an '84, you may have some issues with the fuel pump location. You'll also need the exhaust hanger kit for the passenger side as well.

yea--- behind the Y back is the same as any 86-93 mustang -- mufflers and tails from about anything will work.

My MAC system is polished as far as you can see under the car. It is actually a whole seperate piece that goes up just over the rear axle. This is the 3" system, so I can't say if the other sizes are like that also.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

If you're looking for chrome -- maybe he should speak with SVO4PWR2 -- he's the resident chromasexual

Personally I like stainless on the pipes -- I have chrome on my 1E, and I'm not real happy with how it's holding up.

I recently had an ATR catback setup installed on my '86. The muffler shop had a hard time getting it to fit with my Sac Mustang downpipe and cat. Both guys in the shop have SVOs and TCs. They said that the Magna flows fit the best over the axel.

Yup, Magnaflow has had cat backs for some time now. Buddy of mine had a Magnaflow catback on his 2000 GT "Faleen" Vert. Very nice sound. I plan on putting a Magnaflow system on my 86 in the near future.

                      Y-Pipe

Midas Muffler has a specific part number for the SVO Y-Pipe. At least they did two years ago. They also have (had) the whole system but with chrome tips. I got a pair of Flow Masters and had them weld up the complete set-up. Didn't cost that much either. This was all before I found this site. So if I had to do it over??? I'd have probably done it a little different.
If and when the mice and squirrels ever get around to chewing up my current exhaust I'll try a different set-up. But for the time being it's fine.

the tip i have on my 84 is a custom made. I took stock tailpipes from a 96 "i think" and welded them together to make a dual tip. thats going to change soon, i dont know what i'm going to do with the new exhaust.
btw Eric the tip is stainless...

I have a Bassani cat-back on my 84 SVO. It is a very nice looking set-up. As it comes over the rear axle it splits off into a dual type tips like you would find on the 85.5 /86 Svo. I beleive it is stainless. Don't know if it is still made or not. I could get pictures to show anyone who wants to see.
