  • SN-95 front spindles WONT work with factory Koni's

I dont know of anyone who has done the SN-95 spindle swap on a SVO for sure but I am in the process.
From what I keep hearing the factory SVO koni's will work.... Mine WONT!!!!!!

I dont know if there is a difference between the FACTORY koni's and the replacement Koni's for and SVO.

If someone could do me a favor.... crawl under the front of your SVO with a tape measure.....

the bracket on the strut that bolts to the spindle..... Locate the bottom of that bracket!!!

measure the distance from the bottom of that bracket to the bottom of the strut housing for me-

(I have a pair of Replacement NON koni SVO struts that will work ( so the person i bought them from said that they are replacement SVO struts )

I am going to use 87-93 koni struts instead

Call me at the shop this afternoon and I can take some measurements for you....I am in the middle of an SN-95/Cobra brake upgrade on my Mark VII which uses the same size ball joint and have spindles and struts spread all over the shop right now. I can also share some insight and concerns with you on this....

I think the struts will work, but you need to swap or trim the onion head? I've stumbled accross this swap somewhere on the web, but can't remember where... I'd search the web for "SVO SN-95 spindle swap" and see what it turns up... I tried without success, but maybe you'll have better luck.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

Thaks for th reply guys but i did it my own way and it came out perfect.
I removed the factory non replacable ball joints, machined the a-arms out to accept a 94+ sn-95 ball joint.

I am now using the steeda X2 long ball joints it works awesome. I also removed the factoy a-arm spring perch and went with koni yellow struts with coil overs. I also made a custom sway bar perch. Everything fit perfect and looks great too-

                  Hey Pony,
Did you ever get any photos of your suspension? I'm especially interested in the machining of the a-arm, specifically what was the wall thickness before and after machining? Did you do the machine work, or farm it out? Do the SN-95 ball joints press in?
Thanks for any and all info,

                      Me too

Also was the X2 a plug and play or did you have to do some kind of Bumpsteer kit for it to align?

your sources that state the SVO koni will work either havn't done it, or dont have SVO konis. (or have a magic SVO)

I ran across the same problem years ago when I did the swap (and now run some tokicos). I confirmed with the now infamous Lou Medina and several other sources, and also had Mr Griggs assist me w/ parts required.

you guys need to get in touch with ryan cloud and find out how he done his--but you can make the factory koni's work. I talk to him this morning and he said he does have the factory koni's and has done the 13 in brake conversion with sn95 parts.

I have sn-95 spindles and the original konis on my svo, I used the sn-95 lower control arms that were modified to clear the bottom of the strut. mine has been working fine for years!

What all do you need to convert to the SN95 lower ball joints?

                              The sindles
                              lower control arms
                              calipers
                              rotors

Also would using a smaller brake be easier like off a SN95 V6 or GT? As long as the brakes are at least the same size as my SVO I would be fine with that
