  • Headliner

Okay, I pulled the headliner out yesterday. Not because the car is anywhere near that point of puttin' it back on the road... But the vinyl was pulling off the board. I figured I'd pull it out before it tore at the dome lite or map lite. I gave a test scrape to the cardboard and the remnants of the foam/adhesive comes off pretty easily. Very carefully tested the same of the liner, seems to work the same. What should I use the re-glue this critter when I ready?

    TIA, Eric

I was wonderin' about that 77, actually used it when I worked at Lowes for signage... Wasn't sure about the heat/cold resistance.

      Thanks, Eric

It's good stuff. Just don't soak it or it'll dry like a rock.

          headliner

Are you using an aftermarket piece or the original vinyl?
My vinyl was so shrank that I could not get it to go back into the same space. I used a product from a fabric store that was called headliner fabric ,It looks great! This is not to be mistaken for a factory headliner though. I used Formica brand contact cement 2OO spray . This is available through any retailor that carries formica brand laminate. As far as the spray 77 I prefer the spray 90 it is listed as a permenant adhesive where I believe the 77 is listed as a temporary.I prefer the formica brand or the stay-put brand(oregon based co.) to the 3m .When I bent the cardboard to apply the headliner I bent it just until the the tips of the cardboard touched and it seemed to fit well

My headline was replaced by the previous owner with what he called a "speaker carpet". It's a greyish color, looks great and keeps things quiet. I've used the 3m before for lots of things - once you stick things together it dries fast - make sure you get it right the first time.
            I'm 21 and I've owned 3 SVO's... Yeah I like 'em.

I also went to the local fabric store and bought headliner material and used 90 for the adhesive. My headliner we used 77 and it lost it stick in some spots, so when we did hubby's we used the 90 and I wish i'd have used it on mine. If you are looking to save a few bucks it's easy to replace yourself rather then buying the kit. We spent about 15.00 total to replace each headliner.

The early cars (84) had vinyl. I believe there are vinyl kits out there.

Mine has vinyl, it didnt seem to have shrunk... I'll check it before I get the glue out, though.

                      Thanks, Eric

As do all the cars with sunroofs regardless of what year they were built. Mine has shrunk a little bit in a couple of spots, but not enough to cause much concern right now.
