I dont know of any release so U are prolly gonna have to unbolt the window motor, raise the window up by hand and then bolt the motor back up with the window tract in the up position. That should hold the window in the up position. Also double check the wires between the door and body(the apex) for broken or cut wires. If u have a test light it will help. Also there is one little trick that has worked for me befoe and that is to tap the window motor a couple of times with a hammer....it might just be stuck. Good luck!

from time to time, I have one that sticks all the way down...
usually, I can wiggle the switch, or shut the door a couple of times, and it will go. I know the motor is weak, but I havn't had the time to change it out yet.Eric C

wiggle the switch and tap the motor
I have had to take a screw driver and place the end of it on the motor and then take a hammer and tap the screew driver against the window motor at the same time someone else is wiggling the window switch....... I have also just had to wiggle the switch....... no my windows NEVER go all the way down.... and the first thing i tell passsengers is "WHATEVER you DO.. DON't ROLL that window all the way down"
At my first reunion I stayed in the hotel accross the interstate cause there was no rooms at show central, and that night my window would NOT go up, so the front desk clerk let me park the car in the drop off area underneath the breezeway all night........ my wife wiggled the switch on the way to Show n Shine and it went up......
guess i should have told this story before, but didn't think about telling reunion horror stories untill now

Use it more!
This is a common problem on all older cars with power windows simply because as a general rule, the passenger side window doesn't get used near as much as the driver's side. Make a mental note, and every time you drive your SVO run the passenger's side window up and down a few times. The sticking problem won't raise it's ugly head near as often.Perry Mitchell

From time to time I've had this happen to me. I typically smack the bottom of the door panel (with fist) while toggling the switch. Seems to be the cureall in my experience.

I do this all the time on other things besides my passenger window which does the same thing. However sometimes I do the "Percussive" part a little too hard and then it turns into " PerCUSSive destruction" .Originally posted by MikeFleming
Seems to me that the recovery rule of thumb used here was "Percussive Maintenance". If it ain't working, smack it.

how i deal with this issue
take door panel off and take a long standard screwdriver and a hammer and place the business end of the screwdriver on the casing of the window motor and tap the hammer against the butt end of the screwdriver while pushing UP on your window switch.......obvously you should have the ignition on as well........ something about a deadspot in the motor........ works everytime for me.... now though what i do is DONT roll the window all the way down........86 2R: 14/NOV/1985 #7606 deSkittled in SEP 2003

Just ask 140. He'll tell you that my favorite tool is A BIGGER HAMMER.Originally posted by MikeFleming

I also had the same problem with my passenger window. It was rolled down before an engine swap and didn't want to roll up afterwards. Until I got out the BIGGER HAMMER.'84 2A, '86 9L
