  • Restoration questions

I am restoring my 86 SVO and have a few questions:

    1. what is the factory coating on the hood latch and striker plate that is bolted to the hood? cad, black oxide..? what is the coating on attach bolts for this?

    2. Is there any available Ford emblem that can be used to replace the one on the hood?

    3. Missing one clip for hood scoop surround, where to get?

    4. Best method to repair cracks in header panel. JB Weld..other?

    Thanx,
    Carl

not too long ago the 'blue ovals ' were available from ford. they were used on a number of ford cars.
be careful in buying aftermarket ovals as i have thrown away several that were not suitable.

      1. It's natural - but you can use 'alum blast' or 'dove gray' from Eastwood for a more classy look.

      2. All kinds. Search some aftermarket parts companies specializing in Mustangs.

      3. Dunno

      4. Um ... I would suspect a resin-based material would be better suited. It's made of fiberglass.

yea-- the ford emblems are still available from ford.

As far as a coating on the hood latch, I didn't think it had one.

Maybe one of the guys with a low mile car will help.. all the ones I have are just rusty -- so I pulled them off, cleaned them up with a wire wheel, and painted them flat black

Natural means unpainted. That's why they get rusty.

The replacement hood emblem from Ford is slightly darker (the blue) than the OE one.

                Thanx for the feedback

I was looking at eastwood and I tought they might have a spray that will work.

I thought the hood emblem was discontinued? anyone have a part number?

As for the scoop surround clip...might be able to live with one or fab something.

I found some push on clips for the hoodscoop trim and they've been holding mine on for a few years now. Got them at Lowes or other hardware store.
They originally had some kind of speed nuts on them
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

                    blue oval

your local ford dealer(mercury-lincoln) should have the number. ours(mercury) keeps them on the shelf.

                      SVO

The part number on the ford oval emblem is e2gz.8a223.b.It does appear to still be available.

                        Mike,

this will help too, although I was attempting to describe the latch/striker plate bolted to the hood. If you can provide pics of this that would be great! much appreciated.

                          Hood Latch Gromments

                          Mike -

You might not care, but here's a handy little way of preserving those little plastic pieces that are now gone from your car. That latch lever gets pretty wiggly when the gromments are gone.

                          Cheap fix.
