    Are you sure

Walt, are you sure they're NOS FoMoCo? I bought a set of their Carpenter lamps which look identical to the Ford ones, right down to the Ford part numbers and are made with the original Ford tooling. The only difference is the chrome plating on the back of the bucket which was not on the OE ones and apparently is caused (I've been told) by Carpenter not having the original Ford masks to prevent this. The other problem I (and others) found was that the mounting tabs were not molded right and the retainer clips don't fit on right.

Blue Oval have been selling them for months on Evilbay as NOS in a misleading way, saying they're Ford NOS and when I called them on it, they said they were of course NOS and it would be unethical to advertize and sell something as NOS and have it not be. I thought it was a total line of BS and I called them on it and they blew me off. All in all, it was a good deal just the same so I really can't bitch too much about the parts, it just pissed me off that they claim they're NOS when they're not.

When they were packed, they came in a plastic bag, not the Ford boxes and there was a note in the bag saying to use laquer thinner (or something) to get the chrome off the back of the bucket if desired. This is not a Ford detail.

Were your lamps in the Ford boxes?

Right now, I have installed and am using the Carpenter lights, so I know what you mean by the unit being incorrectly masked. The reproductions came in the plastic bags along with the cleaup note and they leak like crazy.

The headlights I received from Blue Oval were properly masked and seem to be factory "stapled" in the original (and aged) Ford brown box packaging, with the part #s on the outside of the boxes. The headlights also have a "Sylvania 12V SVO USA DOT" stamp on the bottom of the housing.

The l/side marker light does not appear to have been masked for plating, but again, it was in the correctly stapled and marked Ford packaging. From what I've heard, the original mold for it was destroyed and only NOS pieces are available.

When I ordered them, I specifly asked for the nos pieces and paid about 15-20% more for them, but I believe that they're the real deal.

This thread was moved to the PRODUCT REVIEW. It is not technical, rather an advertisement.

          That's good to hear

It sounds like the real deal. Glad they had what you wanted. As the original owner of my 86 2R, back in 87, my original driver's headlight bucket started leaking like crazy. The car was out of warranty by them so I bought a new bucket from Ford and installed it. It too started leaking like crazy within a few months. Sadly, many of the OE Ford ones leaked from day one. My Carpenter driver's bucket also started leaking after one day. Must be some defect with the tooling for the driver's side lamp.

There are a lot of ideas here on the SVOCA board about stopping the leaks, but the best way seems to be to drill a series of small holes in the top and bottom of the bucket to drain moisture and to allow air circulation.

That doesn't repair/stop the leak. That allows it to drain.

i ordered the left outer marker from blue oval off ebay. it came in an aged ford box, that was opened, and wrapped in newspaper along w/ the original bubble wrap. it has an '86 engineering # on the lens, but i'm fine w/ that. i'm glad i caught the right lens before it flew off, and broke like the left one did. the original sealer deteriorated, and the lenses came loose. seeing the prices of a decent used rt outer light on ebay makes me want to be even more careful w/ the front of this car!

Be careful with the new pieces as well. I have repo inner lights and found them loose a few weeks after I installed them. I think that the manufacturer is using the wrong, or not enough glue. They both came loose after I dropped the hood a few times. I crazy glued them back together and they're ok. Needless to say, I now close the hood with great care!

There was someone at the reunion that lost the lens cover from an inner during the autoX........musta had the same issue because it looked like a newer marker.
