  • Rear main seal

I haven't looked into this one yet, but was curious to know if anyone has changed the rear main seal (I'm changing the oil pan gasket). Does this require the removal of the rear crank cap? Or is there an easier/better way?

    Thanks,

      rear main seal

The rear crank main bearing cap - You know, one of those things that holds the crankshaft in place!
Oh, by the way, my engine is out.

      Thanks

I think the rear main oil seal on your car is a 1 piece seal, it instals at the rear of the engine block, you do not have to remove the rear main cap.

        Acording to chilton book:
4-140 ohc engine mfg after 9/28/81, Had one piece seal.

          rear main seal

          Thanks Don,

Like I said - I really haven't looked into it yet! I will get a manual and see what all is entailed - It's good to know that I won't have to pull the main bearing cap!
          Thanks again,

Is it the year block that denotes if there is a one or two piece rear main seal or is it the oil pan?
