  • Repro Dash Pad

I know in the past the reproduction pads weren't worthy of a floor mat. I did a search and I can find no update to newer than the past year other than a thread that says that 50 Resto is making their dash pads out of original Ford Tooling. The question I have is: Has anyone bought a 50 Resto Dash Pad (lately) and if so is it a good piece?

If anyone knows of one that is a good replacement please let me know.

I was going to put a Dash Cap on mine, but upon further inspection, I noticed that it was warped and I'm afraid a Dash Cap will not fit it well. All of this makes me wish that I had pulled the Damn near perfect Dash Pad out of my 86 LX before I sold it in 1999.

At the 40th Ann. show, Ford had a display with a bunch of repro parts. The dash pad they had on dispay was very nice. I asked and was told something was changed a while ago. Hopefully the old crappy ones are gone and the new ones are out there. Check with you mustang supplier. Better yet find one local and go take a look at it first.

Unless the quality has improved, you're probably still better off finding a nice used one and redying it the proper color. I got one off of a 79 (based on the date code) and painted it with the interior paint that SVPU sells. I finally installed the "new" dash pad in the car last Sunday and it looks great! I'll snap a few pics and post them once I get home this afternoon.

Bart, Where'd you get it? I can't find one good enough to paint and add the cover on top of the cost of the pad and its close to if not over $100. If I'm gonna throw out that much, I might as well get the whole repro dash pad if it fits good. I have some dye coming from SVPU, so I'll have the paint for it.

I bought it out of a classified on the Corral. There are a number of people on there parting 79-86 Mustangs out there and I just hit each of them up until I found someone who had a pad that was in good condition. I did almost pay as much in shipping as what I paid for the pad though because of the assinine dimensional shipping charges. In the end, I spent about $90, but it looks much nicer than the halfway job the previous owner had done trying to put a cap on the badly warped and cracked factory dash.

Driver's side. I ran out of paint before I could finish painting the glove box.

SVOBart I am confused. You guys are talking about Dash Pads to put over your dash right? Those pics are just pics of your dash, where is the dash pad?
Hey I am new so did I miss something?

The dash pad is just another name for the dash itself. The cover Fordman speaks of slips over the factory pad and is glued into place and then painted to match the interior. If you read around, you'll find that there is really no quality reproduction dash pad for these cars available unless someone has introduced one recently. So your only alternatives if your factory pad is damaged beyond a simple repaint is to either totally replace it with a good pad pulled from another car as I have, or to buy one of these caps and install it over the old dash.
