  • Carbon Fiber Graphics?

Anybody ever try putting Vinyl Carbon Fiber Graphics decals on the gauge cluster to give a Carbon Fiber look? I was just wondering cause I have an LX Cluster that I was gonna install, but it isn't in very good shape. I thought that I'd experiment with it. I don't want to waste money on the graphics if it is gonna look bad.

Bigwingsaleen had some on his dash

AKA Gary Alsobrooks... He had it on his 84 SVO.
It looks good, but I think with the price of actual carbon fiber sheet I'd buy some and use the LX piece as a template and make a true carbon fiber dash panel.

That was Gary (bigwingsaleen) and he did use some LX panels and not SVO ones and covered them with a carbon fiber looking tape..

The only concern for me on using carbon fiber sheet is cutting it. What do you cut the carbon fiber sheet with? Is it hard plastic or can you cut it with a razor blade?

You can cut 1/8" carbon fiber sheets with a jigsaw or sabresaw. I'd use a large hole saw to cut the guage holes to get them perfectly round.
Search Ebay in the industrial supplies section for carbon fiber. Don't just use general serarch, because you'll get all of the fake ricer carbon fiber stuff. There are many companies who sell their scraps there. You can get a sheet big enough for the guage panel for about $20-$30

I'm considering doing a carbon fiber or as suggested by my Dad, a cherry veneer dash over some LX panels to replace the fuzzy dash panels.

Honestly, I'd like to keep the fuzzy panels in place but it is darn near impossible to find a set that is in good condition and not scratched or discolored.
