Any recomendations on street tires to race on?
I am getting my butt kicked by a few veterans in g stock so I want to return to novice class and put the kuhmos on hold for a while til I can win. I love those kuhmos but I want some trophies darn it!!
Anyway I have really liked my Dunlops and I am considering getting some more. What have ya'll used for a street tire class?
I am on a budget too, if that helps.
    Thanks

Well.....the best 'cheater tires' USE to be the Bridgestone RE71s in my book. They had a 140TW (the lowest allowed in most street tire classses). I could run times less than a tenth or two off the guys running shaved R1s. But, they've been discontinued for a few years now. How bout this one, Yoko AVS Intermediates....VERY cheap cause they're being discontinued as well. They have a 160TW...and I remember alot of Corvette and Firebird owners using them with good success when I was using the RE71s. Tire Rack is having a sale. The 225/50/16s are $60 ea.

Here's a direct link to the tire rack and the Yokos... Tire Rack

Oh my Goodness those are practically free!!!!!
What kind of time difference do you think there is between my kuhmos and a tire like this one?
I am curious how competetive I can be. When I reviewed my pax time with that of the novice class I was 1.5 seconds faster than 1rst place with victoracers on. Do you suspect I will lose all of that or more time by losing the kuhmos? This was on a 53 second run.
      Thanks

The SVOCA is going to give away a set of 4 to some lucky winner at the Reunion.

          Just another reason to attend.

I really have no idea. I would have to see the track, it's surface, and length. I good set of race tires are usually worth anywhere from 2 to 4 secs (depending on the course and it's layout)...on a 60 sec course.

              Here's a link to the 99 Reunion results. http://www.svoca.com/events/reunion99/showwinners.html

              I had the RE71s on my car then. I ran a 44.88 - the SVO that beat me was a a F Stock on R1s. He ran a 44.12.

But, it all comes down to DRIVER....as well as the car. There were alot of SVOs there that day running race tires (look at ESP) that day. I was just able to adjust to the track quicker that day then most.

Wanna get faster?.....then go race. With more seat time, you'll begin to get faster, but always remember - there's going to be someone faster than you....and have fun!

Let us know how the tires work out.!!!

Thanks! I have really been enjoying the car and my autocross club!!
I am very challenged by the courses and very excited about every event. I only wish there were more races to attend. I am also planning on attending the first evolution school I can find, I hear they are great. I hope someday I will be the fastest but it is definitely a little farther down the road for me.
I will try the tires out in a few days and let you know how I like them. I should have had them shaved but I am too cheap to do it. I guess I will shave them the old fashioned way.
                See ya

Well I received the yokos and installed them on the back. So far so good. They seem to be quite sticky. they are a tad wishy washy from full tread but I can take care of that!!LOL
I will really try them tomorrow after the bead is set and let you guys know how they are.
