  • UPR's Clutch Quadrant and Firewall adjuster

FIRST OF ALL I HAVE NOT CONTACTED UPR TO ALLOW THEM TO STRAIGHTEN THIS OUT!

With that being said, I purchased their "fix to the plastic clutch quadrant for the SVO" and other fox bodied mustangs. Nothing fit WITHOUT modification. I had to hire a Ford Certified Mechanic to do it for me to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. Firewall adjuster did not fit into the stock hole, had to trim a little around the hole. CLUTCH QUADRANT DID FIT PROPERLY, however, the wrong clutch cable was sent. Thank goodness I had a true mechanic, cause it was a pain. Took him about 1 hour and 45 minutes and he even had to stop and go home and get a tool to cut the firewall slightly. It would have taken me all day. The instructions that came with the kit leave a little to be desired. I am going to email them with the numbers to make sure they sent the correct kit, but I am not happy. You can't even adjust the clutch now, so what's the use in having it? Anyone else try this product? I am very disappointed so far, but let me see how they back up the product.

The cable that comes with those adjusters is for a 5.0 and I think it is known that it won't work with the bellcrank setup Ford used on the 4 cylinder transmissions. I imagine that there are some minor variations in the hole in the firewall from 79-2003 and they're trying to cover 24 years worth of cars with one kit. I think Maximum Motorsports mentions in their kit that SOME trimming of the firewall may be required, so I wouldn't fault UPR for anything except perhaps not including that in the instructions.

I had one of the UPR adjustable clutch kits on my former 99 GT and never had an issue with it.

      Grind

I found turning or grinding down the boss on the adjuster slightly to be a far easier task that wallowing out the hole in the firewall. Of coruse, this only works if your hole is only thousands smaller

..uh, that just didn't come out right

I just chucked it up in the lathe and avoided the mounting tab.

I installed a set of upr subframe conecter's on a friend's 91 lx. All I'm going to say is that they fit like crap and WILL NEVER purchase a upr product.

And before anyone sais anything about tolerance's etc etc we test fitted a set of steeda subframe's that where in the shop for another customer and they fit great on the same car.

IMHO UPR's quality is right up their with MAC..

I guess I can't complain too much. My friend wanted the clutch cable and traded me straight up for 2 DynoMax mufflers with about 5K on them. I was going to purchase those mufflers and have them put on, so I guess I got a break!
My point on the kit is, UPR tells you they have mustang kits and SVO kits. I would think the SVO kit would FIT!

FWIW, I have UPR's 3 prong quadrant, and their firewall adjuster, and I had NO problems whatsoever!

Are you saying the firewall adjuster went in (not just the quadrant, which is the only thing that fit) without any modification and the clutch cable was the correct one?

I used a clutch cable from autozone specific to the svo. The UPR quadrant and firewall adjuster fit okay. You have to take the white piece off the end of the clutch cable, but otherwise everything fit...

                  Also grind tabs

You also have to file or grind off the 3 (or 4..I forget exactly) tabs on the cable end that locate the "white piece" or rubber bushing that you remove and discard.

Otherwise the cable end won't fit into the adjuster

                    Thanks for replying guys

Were you able to adjust your clutch once the product was installed?

Yep...that's correct. Forgot about that little tidbit...thanks for the correction!
