  • Manifold Temps

I just got done running my 86 SVO at a night time event. Normally I drive my race car during the day so I have never noticed this happening before....

After my runs I usually open the hood to help the engine cool off, this time I noticed a red glow coming from under the intercooler. The manifold was glowing red hot! Is this normal? Would some sort of heat shielding placed under the intercooler help with keeping the intercooler cooler?
Hoping to get on the track soon

it is normal if your timing is slow, or you are running lean.

I've run my car pretty hard, and never seen the manafold glow, but have heard of people having this problem.

I've seen my measured at about 700-750 deg after an autox run....but it was never done at night...thus it never has glowed. I've seen manifolds glow before....but it was as Eric had suggested - timing was off.

Ypu can see temps from 600 to 1300 deg on a turbo engine exhaust. Just dont let it get over 1400 for to long or you can cook a piston!! I will normally see 1250 deg at full boost and yes that is normal!!
Injection is nice but I"d rather be BLOWN!!
