  • Drive or Haul?

I am planing out my trip for the fall and wanted to know how many would drive or haul this year?
I will be hauling the svo with the wifes truck.
I love to drive but the past few break downs have left me a little gun shy.
I also plan on picking up any left by the side and let them drive mine if it need be.

      Killer fuel Costs L/Y

My Ford F-250 diesel SD got about 15 MPG traillering for the 2,340 mile round trip from the Arctic Circle to Richmond last year. At the average price of diesel at that time of about $2.29, those 156 gallons cost me about $357 for the trip. Makes for an expensive weekend of SVO'ing!!!

I should have driven and will next year and save about $100 plus have more fun than white knuckling those mountain roads with my 4x4 SD, big honking car trailer and SVO in tow.

Drive the Girl. You never know where Superman, I mean Mr Pink, will be waiting back in line, or waiting on the shoulder to help you out. I think he said it best last year that there is "safety in numbers". But we really didn't have a problem last year except for the rubber/axle/trailor thing on the way out. And the Mr Pink SVO Escort Service on the way home. If she runs, go for it (get a AAA card just in case)

I'm thinking about going with my comp prep, but I think I'll tow it with my new used Excursion since she already has 80K on her including the 800 I put on her driving her home from Michigan.

Now I just have to find a decent trailer.

I know "trailer queen" but NY is a long way....right?

                  too close

Belive it or not it kinda sucks living close to the reunion. In 2000 I burn up a brand new turbo (still don't no what caused it?) and didn't make it down to Tenn. It took three years to finally put it the new one in (even tho I had the new one a month later) and go to the reunion in 2003 a wopping 20 miles away. But since I'm only 20 miles away for the last two years I end up missing out on all the hotel events. (IE cart racing) This year I'm planning on getting a room at the hotel just so I can have a drink or ten and not worry about driving the SVO.

If the reunion was far I would trailer mine cause I like A/C and cruise on long road trips
Another thing is when you trailer it you don't have to hold back at the dyno drags or autox (worry about braking)

I live 8 miles away, and I still get a room at the hotel

that way I don't have to stagger too far to go to bed!

I once again will be towing my ride. My truck would never forgive me if I left her home. If I didn't have a truck and trailer I wouldn't think twice about loading the SVO up and headin on down.

If I'm still living in Florida , I'll tow it. If I'm living in Tennesee (where I want to be by the end of the summer), I'll drive it.

I had planned on driving (Little Rock, Ark), but SVORob brings up a couple good points. I will make a decision after August to see how the SVO holds up on other trips....

                            Drive man, drive

California is too far away to Haul with a trailer. If I go (depending on work load) I need to take about 7 working days off. That would probably double if I hauled the car with a trailer and would be really boring. Drive man, drive is the way I would go to the reunion - that 7,000 miles I would put on the car would be worth the drive (cannonball run ). That's still about $700 in fuel round trip, but opportunities for a cross country excursion only comes but once a year!

I always trailer if it's more than 3 hours. Heck, I've got the truck and trailer why not use them? I always bring some parts to sell to offset the costs. I've actually gone to MCA shows like Charlotte and made money. Of course I then spent all of that money and a little more to buy the 1B the very next day. All I had to do was unload the 2R and drive the truck / trailer to south of Atlanta to pick it up. Besides the new F-250 goes like there wasn't anything back there. I had to keep the cruise set on 80 coming back from Baton Rouge just so I wouldn't go any faster. Depending on my situation this year I may just drive up very early Saturday in just the truck with no parts & no tailgate. Then back on Sunday afternoon. I won't know for sure until about a week beforehand.
