  • Boost Guage

Okay, This is going to sound like a really stupid question...

Those of you that are running an extra boost guage...Like an Autometer in a guage pod, WHERE do you run the little 1/8" vaccumn line to? It comes with fittings, but I don't get where you are supposed to tap into for this thing.

    Any help/advice would be appreciated!

Thanks, in advance, for your replies!

    Boost Gauge

    Rich,

I actually tapped into the factory boost gauge line behind the insturment cluster. If you wanted you could have both gauges working. I didnt choose that option though.

      Cudd,

That's what I was thinking of doing, but HOW did you do this? I mean the line form the guage is 1/8" and the fitting is like 1/4", and the line from the old guage is like 1/4" I think or 3/16".

So, what I'm asking is did you just force that fitting into the old guage line, or what?

      Thanks for your response!

I tapped into the factory line as well. You'll have to find an adapter fitting that will allow you to match-up the different size hoses. I went to Home Depot and found a brass fitting that allowed the two to fit together. I also used some epoxy on the fitting so I could avoid air leaks. Be careful doing this as it's easy to get too much epoxy and plug the hole. I think the fitting cost me like a couple bucks or so. I would recommend cutting a small piece off of the stock hose and take that plus the autometer one to the store with you so you can match them up.

          Exactly

          Rich,

I did exactly as JZ did except I used teflon tape. Sorry i thought you were just looking for where to tap in at, not how.

            Cudd,

Yeah, I kinda had an idea where I wanted to go with it, just looking at what I had, didn't quite know HOW.

            JZ,

            Thanks for the response!

Guys, I think I know what to do now. I appreciate your help!

            Anyone else with good ideas?

            Thanks,

Rich, I tapped into my dash boost gauge line, but under the hood. I duplicated the method a couple of my GN (ack!) friends had done. I cut the boost signal line and inserted a brass t-fitting with two barbed ends and one compression fitting. From there I ran the nylon tubing through the firewall and up to the gauge. It was pretty simple and gives you a little more room to work than under the dash.

                Ted,

So that means both of your guages work?

That's a great idea. Where were you able to find that fitting?

(Would an ACE, Home Depot, etc. carry that?)

That's what I would like to do!

Thanks for all the input guys!

Rich, Yes both of my gauges work. I think I bought all my pieces from Ace or True Value. Any hardware store should have what you need. I think I just cut a small piece of vacuum hose and nylon tubing and brought it to the store to size the barb and compression fittings. Should cost around maybe $10 for the pieced together fitting. If I get a chance, I will snap a pic of mine so you can see where and what it looks like.

                    Ted,

Thanks for the response. I am going NOW to the hardware store to take a look...so no pic needed. I will figure it out, but thanks anyway!

                      Ok....

I just got back from ACE hardware, and they set me up with a brass block, and two hose fittings, and a compression fitting. I'm using 1/8" fittings all around. Looks like it will work, and actually will look pretty cool under the hood!

Thanks for all the help guys, couldn't have done it without ya!

                          Ted,

That's the ticket! That's exactly what I got for my setup!

I would've put it in last night, but, as you know, we had a little rain....

Again, thanks everyone for your input!

                            boost

Rich, did you get the boost gauge installed? I'm trying to figure out from Teds picture which hose that would be. If you could shed some light on this, it would be very helpful. Thanks!

                              Zen,

Trace your hoses from the vacuum tree on the firewall and find the one that goes over to the driver's side below the hood hinge. If it goes through the firewall under the driver's side hood hinge, then you found the one that goes to the factory boost gauge. This is the line I tapped into. HTH.
