  • 3" turbo outlet

how does the down pipe connect to the aftermarket 3" turbo outlet sold by 40bob or rods headers?

does a flange need to be welded on the outlet? is it a slip fitting?

    any ideas?

    thanks

    3" out

His elbow is a weld on application. You could use a slip fit adaptor but I still would weld it. Exhaust leaks there are not fun.

    good luck

      It is a slip fit.
I agree with the welding tho...definitely need to weld it.

        so then...

I would have to have a flange fabricated by a machine shop, or skip this mod. I figured that was an easy way to get quicker spool. I bought this car but the cat was removed and it is a bit loud (it is an everyday driver). I figured I could add the larger downpipe, open up the turbo outlet, add a cat and a quiet offset muffler and have fun and still be able to listen to the radio. Maybe i will just add the 3" down pipe and cat, muffler etc and skip the bigger turbo outlet mod...

I was referring to the 3" elbow AND downpipe that Bob sells. You send Bob your original elbow and he sends you his back. Direct bolt on. The two are made to work together (very nicely, by the way). The downpipe is made to slip fit over the elbow, but should be welded.

            stand corrected

I looked at bobs site again. You are right it is a slip fit with his downpipe. The 3" form Rod is a weld on app only.

I posted that because that is what I am running....however the slip fit idea is just that - an idea. I have the prototype of that downpipe. Bob does not make them; someone else does as with his elbows. Anyway, the slip fit works great, but clamping that sucker so that it does not come loose? Just weld it....much easier. I am very happy with it, and have had no problems with fit, rubbing, or anything else. Well worth the money invested.

You may want to contact Charlie at Evergreen Turbo, when i last spoke to him last time he said he was working on a 3 inch turbo outlet elbow that would house an internal wastegate and would feature a bolt on clamp style connection much like the stock one only bigger.
