  • 15 inch wheels

Just wondering if 15 inch wheels will fit over the rear brakes of an SVO. I'm not real familiar with these Mustangs. The reason I ask is I have a project that is using an 86 SVO rearend. I'd like to keep the wheel size small but wide as it is a small light car I'm building. I'd also hope to keep the stock rear brakes to try and keep costs down. I know this is kind of opposite the current trend to put bigger wheels and brakes on but I was thinking someone out there may use smaller wheels for autocross. Any info would be great. I need to decide wether to use this rear end or find a different lighter one.

That's a tough one. The only thing I have in 15" are the 4 lug 10 hole wheels like the 85 GT and later LX 5.0's. Maybe you could cut a piece of cardboard to 15" and stand back to see if it will clear? It would also depend on the depth / offset of the wheel you plan on using.

It will require a fairly serious offset to keep the track where I need it. I may need to narrow it a few inches. That may cost too much to be worth it. A lot of other builders use rear ends from early 80's Toyota Celicas and Mazda RX-7's. These are a bit lighter than a 7.5 but it's tough to find one with limited slip and disk brakes. If I can't use this one would anyone be interested in buying it off me?
