  • 3" exhaust

My exhaust system from the cat back has totally rusted out, therefore (to my wife's disliking!) I'm in the market for a new (bigger & louder) exhaust! I've read previous threads and it looks like people were using a MAC 3" single that seems to be pretty hard to get a hold of. I called a local exhaust shop for a quote and they said 3" won't fit and the largest they could do is 2.5", is this correct? Seems from previous threads that all the single exhaust people are using 3". Are there any fit issues for you people using 3"? Any one know where I can get a MAC system? Otherwise I'm stuck using flowmaster and trusting the local shop (ugh). Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

3" fits just fine. I just put a 3" mac pass side set up. Fit real nice. I dont think any one sells just one side any more but find a guy that will split a set and you are in buisness. Or just go dual 3"

      Good luck

The local muffler shop is trying to sell you the best deal they can get from their sources. The MAC just costs more or they don't have a reasonable source.

        Shop on.

I am using dual 3" Magnaflows on my car with it lowered and do not have any issues. I have always loved the "Mac" sound but wanted something a little more civil in this car.

I had the dual 3" mac on mine and it sounded great. Just like a V8. I changed out and put a single flowmaster on it and I loved the sound of that also.
Now with the borla single over the axle. Very quiet compared to the rest of them.
2.5 is big enough for dual. If you can go 3" back to the muffler.
Time to clean up the engine bay!

I will be running a Stinger 3" downpipe to 2.5" splitter pipe, just waiting for it to come in. From the mufflers back, I'll run a standard LX dual exhaust system.

So... maybe I'll just go with 2 1/2" duals. I have always been a 5.0 guy and just love the look of the duals in the back, besides it will probably sound nicer. Now I've already put in a single intank fuel pump and eliminated the inline pump, what else would need to be done to make a dual system fit? How does the existing exhaust feed into the new duals? I have been looking for either a MAC or flowmaster system. I've seen MAC systems that say they will fit 79-95 mustangs, but the flowmaster systems usually say 86-93. Is this true or will the flowmaster system fit my SVO? Flowmaster systems were either delta force or american thunder if that makes a difference. Any help is appreciated.

Any body used the MAC or Flowmaster 2 1/2" dual catback systems out of summit or JEGS or other websites? Any problems with fit? Any tips about hooking in the existing DP and CAT? Just trying to make sure I do this right and know all the obstacles before deciding on 3" single or 2 1/2" dual.

On an 84 I believe you will have to relocate your fuel filter to run duals. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

This company ordered a drivers side 3" tailpipe for me. I love the sound, but it's very tight between the frame and gas tank. I also had to fab a short piece to connect to the Esslinger downpipe I have.
Personally I'd ordered the Stinger system and be done if it wouldv'e been available at the time.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!
