I am thinking of removing the A/C and heater core and lines to lighten up my 84 a bit (that and I never use it anyway). Most of the weight will be in the compressor, but since my car came with A/C will I throw off the motor balance or anything weird? I know Comp preps didn't come with A/C and others that have taken it out, I'm just wondering if I should do anything else besides removing things. Any help and opinions are welcome.
Thanks John
I removed the a/c compressor - lines, and all is well. But i did not remove the heatercore cause i still use the heater. I love those cold mornings or should i say, The car loves the cold! -RICH-
Dont mean to dig up an old post but Im thinkin about gettin rid of the AC as well, but wanna keep the heater. Im a newb at ACs, what all can I remove and get away with. What else should I remove to have a nice daily driver, but be as light as possible. Thanks,
Matt

I removed the condensor (the big piece in front of the radiator), the lines, and the compressor, and bracket. I left the evaporator core, and heater core. I like to have heat on ocasion, and the evaporator core is just way too hard to get to for the 5# is will save you.
It says in my Haynes that I need to take the car to a mechanic and have them "depressurize" the system. Is this required or can I just NOT unhook any lines and remove it? Ive never done this, but owuld like to give it a shot this week sometime. My first car was a 66 with NO AC and the one in the 84 doesnt even work so I dont want the junk in there anymore. Thanks

Got it out, im sore, tired and extremely happy that it came out with no major problems. Compressor was a pain to get loose, but once I got the bolts loose, the rest was a breeze...that, and those lines are tuff to take apart, especially with the crummy autozone tool. Anyways, appreciate the help, any other good weight loss tips without stripping the interior? Its Christmas break and i need more projects, lol

I did not know that there is a replacement fiberglass hood for the SVO's. In the Jegs catolog there is a Borgeson aluminum rag joint replacement that advertises 8lbs. of savings. 280 air can work in a pinch.
Wow, didnt know you could save so much from a simple bumper swap!!! Ill have to check that out because no-one would be the wiser and thats the kinda weight loss I want!

I scored today. I picked up an 8.8 out of an 87 GT auto w/ a fiberglass front bumper and serpenteen belts and accesories for only 300. Is there a light weight rear bumper also or just cut some of the metal off?
