  • Koni's

I was at a track day this weekend and the last lap of the first session my 86 SVO became very screwing going into a right hand turn after a long straight. Almost lost it twice. Went out again and someone told me my passenger back brake was locking up. The car never did this before, if fact I was having fun with 5.0 Mustangs, etc. Does the settings go out on the shocks?? Do you think they need rebuilding?? Do they sell new replacements and what is the new KONI model numbers? Thanks

I wouldn't think this was a Koni setting.. i would think it was probably a sticky brake caliper.

The koni's can be replaced.  You can have them fixed from Koni, or purchase new ones from a koni dealer. (not much difference in price)  The club recomends SVPU, or Motion Dynamics for Koni purchases.  Stick with a good vendor, and you won't have to worry about getting the wrong ones.

yeah - Brake failure has nothing to do with Shocks/Struts. Sounds like you need to take a serious look at your brakes. Sticky calipers are common occurances with stock SVO brakes. Been there - done that....scared the crap out of me.

Mushy ride - bouncy ride - sever oversteer/understeer = fix your suspension

Brake locking up = fix your brakes.

Though it probably doesn't need to be said - I wouldn't suggest going back out on the track until you fix this....

Call Paul at SVPU. He can fix you right up. Be sure to ask about his Stainless Steel pistion kits for your Calipers and S/S brake lines as well. www.svpu.com or 205.629.3126

Thanks for the replies. The front brakes have the SVPU "puck" conversion & new pads and I put new Napa "stock" calipers with SVPU pads. The car was great in June, but this last time it got real squirrelly. It caught my attention. Help

The car sits a lot between track days and the occasional run to work.
