  • Oil cooler?

I want to change to a front mount oil cooler and clear up the water lines in the engine bay.
Will a 5.0 oil cooler fit on the 2.3 oil filter area.?
Poor wording but you get the point.
Oil lines go to air to oil cooler and back.

Are you talking like ones used on a 94-95 Cobra? As in - a direct bolt on swap?

      This is one of them.
I would like to do this but not sure of the fit of not.
I think the cobra is the same.
      Let me know.

probably your best bet is to call Mustang Parts Specialties....as they are they people auctioning the part. Ask them if it will fit and warranty/return policy if it doesn't fit your application....

The first guy I talked to did not know. I may try it and if it don't work sell it to a 5.0 guy close to me.
          They will buy anything.
Any one else know, if not I will find out.
          Thanks

That should fit. Of course you have to remove your existing coolers housing, then it will bolt on the same way. I am 99& sure the 5.0 used the same size thread on its oil filters, ours is just shorter to clear the steering. You will have to still use the same oil filter and get used to spending more on your oil as it will hold about 2 more quarts.

FWIW, that is a great price. I have sold them used for over 150. Its a Special service/ cop car part that was also sold through the Motorsport book.

Its missing the cooler itself as well as the support brackets, obviously. I can get them or you can find a yard that stocks Cop cars.

the only difference between the filter on a 5.0 (FL-1A), and the filter that fits our SVO, (FL-300) is one is full quart, the other is half quart.  they do have the same size threads.. -- Just backing up what GT-350 Said..

If you were to pull the oil cooler off the SVO, you could put the full quart filter on it.

Kerry the best thing that I can tell you would be to catch up with Ralph Kingrey at the Reunion and check out his oil cooler, remote oil filter set up. It has got to be one of the nicest set ups that I have seen.

Maybe Ralph will make a list of all of the parts that he used and post them.

Just to add to Eric's comment about filters. If you want to fit an FL-1A filter on an SVO, get a 90 degree adapter off of a Merkur engine. It bolts onto the oil cooler and points the filter downward giving you almost unlimited length clearance. I was lucky enough to get one on a spare Merkur motor I picked up years ago.
