I would like to replace the ignition coil in my 86 SVO. I am unsure what coil to buy as of course no one has a listing for a replacement SVO coil. Is it the same coil as the non-turbo 2.3L Mustang? Can anyone recommend a good high output replacement coil? A manufacturer and part number would be very helpful. Thanks gang.
What is nice about the Ford specific coil is that you can plug your factory harness into it. For the one I have, I had to purchase an adapter to use the screw power terminals. That is because I purchased it almost 10 years ago before they had the 4709 above.
Paul sells the same coil MSD has (45000 volt) , and it is a direct plug in. I believe the price is $35.00. I've never really had good luck with accel stuff, and I stay far away from summitt when I can.
After my last conversation with their tech department, and their tech is telling me that the SVO's are V8's, I refuse to call them back.
I agree with you about Summit's tech line Eric, I have been on there too. I just knew I could find a picture/number for my coil on Summit's site with a ballpark price.
I have been running a Crane PS-91 on my SVO for the past couple of years with good results. I bought the universal replacement model and took it out of the fancy aluminum bracket. It then bolted into the stock coil bracket, just like the factory coil.
I never had any problems with the stock Ford coil either.
