    Update on pinging

So, as many of you have said that I need to check the timing I could not ever find any timing marks on the crank then someone mentioned they are on the cover..which makes no sense to me. why put critical settings on a plastic cover that could break or move with time?? Anyways, I dug through the shed and found the cover. I put it on as best I could and lined it up as best I coudl for good readings.

Providing the cover is on correctly my timing was set at 15 degrees base. when I pulled the spout before with no timing marks, the car idled perfectly and if tuning by ear sounded like 10 degrees. After talking to Kevin over the phone he enlightened me on a few things so I found the cover and checked again.

It's now at 10 degrees and a few test drives netted no pinging however the car is a dog again. With nothing else changed except the log install I can't tell a difference at all. that's ok because I wasn't after that, but it would be nice to have it for what I paid.

I was telling Kevin since I use regular mode all the time and my premium mode doesn't work (bad BCS or BCM) I was just going to disconnect them both and run a line from the tree to the actuator for a steady 10psi max.

I HOPE with this timing set right my mileage picks up and with the gear change next week I'm hoping for a definite change.

thanks everyone, I'm sure this won't be the last thing I ask

I'm with you on the "dog" comment. You have to remember that without lots of boost you're just driving a 4cyl with only a very low 8:1 compression and ~90hp. Boost (and octane) is your friend.

Glad to see you found your problem. YES Dizzy bolt sucks. Go tot he hardware store and buy a hex head bolt (allen key style). MUCH more user friendly.

Oh and as Tateg Said, without boost the car is a dog. TRUST ME when you get mature enough for the Boost you'll feel the new found Hp of that bobs log.

Just run the line from the compressor scroll outlet fitting to the diaphram, It will actually be more responsive and accurate.

you can also just elminate the BCS/BCM, and connect the hoses straight though. i saw a few setup that way at the reunion. gives ya 14-15 psi.

I am attempting to produce a stock location Header braced mild steel that will be a direct replacement header not a log. No external Waste gate. Target price will be less than 275.00 I should have pictures soon. But I need to know if there is interest out there. Let me know if your interested.

this depends on the actuator you have, but with a stock actuator, will give 9-10 psi normally.

I eliminated the BCS and just ran a hose from the Comp. Outlet T to the Comp Inlet fitting and now I'm at 18psi. It's wierd as I thought it'd be at 14-15psi but the length of the Vacuum hose must have some affect. (mine is pretty short)

You'll get the 9-10 psi if you cap the port to the BCS on both the compressor Outlet side and Inlet side. This just regulates boost to whatever the spring in the actuator is. If you leave the BCS Bleed Circuit connected minus the BCS you'll get more depending on the size of the port in the T and I believe the length of the vacuum line although I'm not completely convinced of the latter.

My TC was the same way as my SVO is now and I got 17psi with the BCS bypassed.

ahhh I see what you are saying, for some reason, I though you were talking about running straight to the actuator. ==
BTW -- the reason this limits boost to 14-15 psi is the small hole in the outlet attached to the turbo housing.

                        header Progress

Ok I do have a prototype and some pictures that will give you an Idea
For everyone that says I could not do it for 275.00, you were right I am 20.00 over budget.
header looks similar to an ATR not stainless but 295.00 plus shipping is sweet.
for more info and preliminarily pictures just email me directly at giamanut@comcast.net
