Can you supply pics of the entire area(s)? It's pretty hard to diagnose with this description, Like, where does the hose from the wastegate even go to?Originally posted by 84svo2.3it doesnt have the bcs all it has is a vaccum line hooked up straight to the wastegate and ideas might help
Here is the stock setup.

The stock guages are known to be highly inaccurate, so I wouldn't be so sure about those 16 and 18 numbers.
If there is NO BCS, aftermarket, or otherwise, it would peg the boost gauge ever time you 'nailed it and held it' One of the mods some people tried was a wire splice put in the vacume line, that could be acting as your boost controler.
I think we need to see how the hoses are routed. The 84/85 systems are pretty different from the 85.5/86'sEric C

The increase in boost has to do with the lenght of hose you are using to by-pass the boost solinoid & the change in the air density with the cooler drier air. The electrical connector you disconnected from the BCS sends a return signal to the ECA to let the computer know the the boost is at 15 psi. setting up max parameters for fuel delivery. Even if you don't use the BCS that connector needs to be plugged in for maximum engine performance! Rick85 SVO "Christine" ; CBR954RR CB350 85 VF1000R XR400R CZ 250 Enduro 66 Suzuki X-6 "Hustler"

well my boss took a look at my car and said that the vaccum hose to the wastegate was hooked up wrong so i rerouted it and put a manual bc and set it at 14 psi and put it on the dyno it made 142hp and 215tq(i know thats weak) my boss said that my cat was all clogged up and needs to be chopped of and i will pick up more power

Will 18 psi hurt the engine? Mine is pushing out 18psi as well but that is what the manual boost control was set at when I got it.'79 Indy pace car V8 4sp; '79 Indy pace car 4cyl turbo 36k miles; '82 GT T-top; '85 ascMcLaren coupe; '85 SVO 1C; '86 SVO 1C; '86 SVO 2R; '88 Turbocoupe; 90 GT vert; '92 GT

It all depends........Originally posted by greg_pro50Will 18 psi hurt the engine? Mine is pushing out 18psi as well but that is what the manual boost control was set at when I got it.
Head gaskets can survive with 20 pounds of boost......and fail at 10. It just depends on the engine condition (trueness of surfaces), what type of gasket is used, etc.
Detonation is your worst enemy here. Unless you have good fuel, good fuel supply, and can cool down the air charge, expect to get the checkbook out.

The only mods on the car is a 255lph fuel pump and a T-bird intercooler. Are those pics you posted for an engine that would be similar to my '85? I think I was going to try to hook it back up to stock to tone it down a little and see what it is like if it is as easy as switching a couple vacuum hoses around. I'm going to have to check the timing. What should the timing be set at?'79 Indy pace car V8 4sp; '79 Indy pace car 4cyl turbo 36k miles; '82 GT T-top; '85 ascMcLaren coupe; '85 SVO 1C; '86 SVO 1C; '86 SVO 2R; '88 Turbocoupe; 90 GT vert; '92 GT

Those hp #'s are about right. Since 84's had 175hp and you accout for about 40hp loss for drivetrain, 142rwhp is about right.Originally posted by 84svo2.3well my boss took a look at my car and said that the vaccum hose to the wastegate was hooked up wrong so i rerouted it and put a manual bc and set it at 14 psi and put it on the dyno it made 142hp and 215tq(i know thats weak) my boss said that my cat was all clogged up and needs to be chopped of and i will pick up more power86 2A Bi-wing delete
