    SVO's: 86 2A and a 9L

    Stock head flow numbers

    I am trying to get some baseline head flow numbers for stock unported head.

    I found a good head last night and wanted to port it myself and see what kind of improved numbers I can pull. I have ported many old FE heads but never a 2.3 head. Any pointers would be appreciated specific to our heads.

    Wow...that's a lot of work Bo! Also looks like your head flows pretty freaking good! So I guess I keep my porting advice to myself...lol.

    I have my head in the shop now. I will see how well I fair. This will be my first 2.3 porting.

    Thanks I got my head back today man they must be hard up for work right now. Anyways I have #4 intake ported and moving on to #3 thursday after work. Thanks for the numbers.

    What Does This Mean

    So the flow numbers increase and the principle is more fuel more air = bigger bang, the more bang = more hp......ok with all of that. What is the expected increase in hp from:

    mild port and polish
    aggresive (for lack of better words) port and polish
    esslinger (bolting onto stock engine)

    and given no other changes, what happens to the powerband?

    I just ported and E6 and would like to know if I should do more.....or leave it as mild.

    you should leave the e6 as is, and clean up the intakes to a similar degree of port work to the e6. if you put a full race tubular header on the car and still run stock intakes, that tubular header won't be doing crap for you. Everything works together.

    Actually...there have been many dyno runs that show a gain of 20HP over the stock ex manifolds. Thats with an unported head and stock intakes.

    The stock E6 is a restriction. The E3 is a straight up road-block.
