    Smoking when driving

Hello. Im posting this for my friend. He just finish putting his whole engine back together last week. He swapped his whole top end from his 88 turbo coupe on to his 84 svo. We hooked everythign back up the right way, we hope. But we took it out today up to the local vo-tech school, to drive it around. Started out fine and then it started to smoke very bad, enough so you couldnt see anything behide us.

Do anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Color & smell are very important to know. Also, did he happen to use liberal amounts of antiseize on the turbo, ex manifold or DP?

How far did you take the engine down? Did you prime the turbo oil feed line before starting? Is there a kink in the oil return line? Did he redo the rings? more info needed.

my friend figure it out today. the oil he used was not thick enough. so im guessing he was just burning the oil up in the engine.

If it smells Sweet and Yummy it's anti-freeze. Gagging and Raunchy Non-organic it’s Oil.

You have to be careful there are some here on this forum that will lick just about anything on a car and smile.

Maybe he set up the engine really, really loose to keep friction at a minimum and even aligned the ring gaps to keep cylinder pressures in check?? Seriously, I have heard of additional oil consumption due to a lighter grade, but not enough to cause excessive smoking.
