    The front universal was A-ok, I suspect that since it's up under the car and right above the cat it doesn't see the same issues as the one at the pumpkin end. I had the same issue a year or so ago with my Tahoe. I took the Tahoe to my local garage and they only replaced the lower one and said they very rarely see the front U-joint go bad. So with that being said, here are the pics:

    Old / bad U-joint. This was causing bind, not allowing the proper flex or articulation of the joint

    New U-joint installed (glad my work has a press - makes the process so much easier)

    And a "garage at night shot" right before I re-installed the D/S:

    Hope to start driving the SVO later this week.

    Joe,

    I had to replace the front u-joint on my Norcal car about 2 years ago, so they can go bad.

    If your inspection showed that it looked good to you, then no need to replace it. My thought was that since I was replacing one I might as well replace the other, since I figured I would get half way through my June track day event and have the old one give up on me.
