Should they Stay or should they Go ?

Welp I'm finally thinking about a slight mod to the Skittles 4 banger....

my bro-in-law sold his 94 cobra and had put other rims on it so he gave me his original 94 Cobra rims.... he only had tires on 2 of them so I tried them on the back today.... man they are meaty... 255/45 17's....

i'd get new tires for all four corners of course, but just wanted to see...

what do you all think ?

Not my favorite for our cars, but I'm not the world's best barometer. Perhaps with new tires they'd look better.

Check them out on the front before you buy tires. I have a set of 99 Cobra wheels with 245/40"s. They fit pretty good on the rear, but they stuck out past the front fender about 3/4 inch and looked really "ghetto". I never checked the lock to lock, just got a set of 05 GT wheels for the SVO. Anything newer that 05 will fit lots better.

Since I ran '96 Cobra wheels (same thing with painted insets), I can give an opinion on fit. With stock springs and running 245/45's I had rubbing in the back on big dips, even with rolled fender lips. Up front, no issues on the inside, but I did rub the bottom screw head on the front bumper cover return flange at full lock with the outer corner of the tread. A rounded button head cap screw took care of that issue up front.

In any case, the choice is yours, especially if they are free to you. You may want to consider selling them as-is and using the funds to support some 05+ take-offs or another project. Just my $0.02.

Agreed. Not a fan of wheels / tires sticking out past the fender edge. Try the 05 and newer wheels...

THANKS for the added info, however, one issue I have is that this particular family (my in-laws) are REAL big on... hey I purchased that for your kids, now where is it ????? or... a year later... How are those drapes looking in your bedroom ????... I have a karaokee machine deep in the storage space under my steps because If the mother-in-law wants to ask about it 3 years from now.. I better be able to produce the karaokee machine and show her we still got it......... LOL

I had a set of those on my 84 with 275/40-17 and they didn't really give me any trouble. They were on the verge of sticking out too far. They were my cousins wheels and he ran them on the car for a while.

yeah, that's the only gripe I've ever had about those wheels, they stick out a bit far.
