    My 1986 2A project

Well, I figured I would start a thread of my 2A project. I blew the head gasket about 6 months ago. I pulled the head and was just going to replace the head gasket but found out when the gasket blew it destroyed the turbo as well. Well, one thing led to another and I decided to pull the engine and get it built also. It is going to be a long process especially with the project only progressing as money is available.

Cleaned the transmission and intake up while I have them out. I plan on cleaning all parts and powder coating some of them as well.

Sorry to hear about the blown head gasket and turbo. I think you're right on target to rebuild the whole engine. I bet it will be awesome. The clean up pictures look great!

I just hope to have it back together before the next reunion. Here is a picture of the turbo fresh back from Evergreen. Charlie did a great job. Upgraded to a t3/t4. The manifold is a E6 ported and Jethot coated.

Finally got my short block back. Now just have to finish saving for my Boport stage three head.

Very nice! I just dropped off an extra Turbo Engine to be rebuilt. I plan on using that engine and having the one in my car redone also.

I need to find another short block to put back as well. Although I am building this engine for more performance. I am keeping my stock head original. I have a nos E6 manifold. I also have two sets of intakes. I got one ported and polished and left my original one stock. I am trying to make it so that if in the future I want to put my car back to stock it will not be a problem.

That sounds like a smart plan. I was lucky I was able to get my hands on one. I'm delaying my paint and body until I get the swap done. I'm still trying to find a rebuildable Turbo core I can send to Evergreen. The fun never stops !

Nice work on the intake there. What process did you use to clean it? Thanks.

    SVO's: 86 2A BWD,
gbeaird, I did some research and found that using automotive degreaser and a "stainless steel" wire brush and a lot of elbow grease works great. I was concerned at first that it would scratch the metal so I started on the bottom were it would not be noticed if it did but it did not scratch the metal at all. I did the same with the transmission. They were both covered in grease and dirt to the point were you couldn't see the aluminum much at all. After I cleaned them I put some aluminum sealant on them as well. Thanks for the compliment by the way.

    SVO's: 86 2A BWD,
It's been a while since I posted anything here but I finally got the money to start buying some more parts. I ordered my stage three ported head from Boport today. I order a front mount intercooler as well. Boport said it would take a while to get me the head as there were several people ahead of me. The intercooler is supposed to be here on the 25th. I will post some pictures as soon as possible. Still have a lot more to buy but for now out of money again. The cylinder head emptied the funds.
