    SVO's: 1986 Guards Red SVO

    Egr

    The EGR on my car has a little carbon on the back side (toward engine). Is this typical? It also will open and close while blipping the throttle from idle.

    carbon on the outside of the EGR valve ? no, That don't sound right.

    also, are you sure the EGR is hooked up to the correct vacuum controller ?
    That sound like you have the EGR hooked up to regular engine vacuum.

    It could have a pin hole in the diaphragm that is leaking carbon. Use a mighty vac or similar and pull a vacuum to see if it holds or leaks down.
