    Acronyms

    Again, I will admit to being completely ignorant relative to most anything SVO and especially turbos. I have been doing a tremendous amount of reading here the past couple weeks. I have noticed you guys have and use frequently a ton of acronyms. I was wondering if you guys could post a list of acronyms with their definition and use?
    Regards,

    Thanks. I don't feel so bad now. The only one I didn't know in that list was HLA. Liked the POS, though I haven't seen it used here...yet.

    I will throw out a few, answering the ones above first:

    PIP = Profile Ignition Pickup (Hall effect sensor module inside distributor)
    TFI = Thick Film Ignition module (module on the side of the distributor body)
    KO = ??, got me stumped on that one, could you mean KS = Knock Sensor

    Here are a few from the Slocum handbook:

    BP = Barometric Pressure sensor
    ECT = Engine Coolant Temperature sensor
    EGO = Exhaust Gas Oxygen sensor (O2 sensor for short)
    EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation system
    FPR = Fuel Pressure Regulator
    FPD = Fuel Pressure Damper
    ISC = Idle Speed Controller...also known as IAB = Idle Air Bypass
    IS = Inertia Switch
    OBS = Overboost Warning Switch
    PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve
    TPS = Throttle Position Sensor
    BCS = Boost Control Solenoid
    VAT = Vane Air Temperature sensor (part of VAF)

    I am sure there are many more folks to toss in here.

    AllI am Pretty sure KO is Key On.
    I think it is out of print (maybe not), but there is a "must have" book called Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control by Charles Probst, SAE. It covers 1980 to 1987 and definitely covers all SVO and has full wiring schematics anything that touches the engine. ISBN is 0-8376-0302-1

    I'm heavy duty technical person that works around electrical things all the time. But it quickly convinced me that carburetors are POSs and this book helped me to never look back.

    I would agree on the KO (Key On) after reading another thread about checking codes referencing KOEO and KOER. My assumption is those are Key On Engine Off and Key On Engine Running.

    Thanks again, very informative.

    so, as we've had this board up for YEARS... I'm surprised to find something we've missed. but Patrick, you found something that's certainly worth-while.

    I've updated Joe Turbo's post, with all the suggestions thus far (all in alphabetical order)
    As others are added, We will update the post at the top, with the list.

    my contributions thus far were

    SVO -- Special Vehicle Operations
    GDMFSOB -- really, you need me to spell it out ?

    OMG...that was better than POS. Hopefully they aren't that bad. I have two '65's that have sent me into many of those tirade's.
