    Recommendation for oil pan gasket

Looking for a recommendation on whether to replace the oil pan gasket on my 86 SVO with cork or rubber. Not looking to be "cheap" with a replacement. replacing at the same time I'm putting in a new rear main seal. Thanks

for the valve cover and oil pan, I recommend the ford gaskets. They are rubber, and reusable, and typically work pretty well. Just my opinion...

If you have the original engine, then the rubber won't work without changing some parts or filling the gaps with ultra gray. Use the cork along with ultra gray silicone to seal everything tight.

On the road warrior, I use 3mm aluminum spacer and ultra gray silicone to make my own gasket. Works like a charm. I have the latter flat hump rear cap and front aluminum seal housing.

I thought you could still get the rubber gaskets for our years ? to be fair, I've not tried to buy one in nearly 10 years.

You can make the rubber gaskets work, but they are not a direct replacement for the engines that came with the 4 piece gasket. I think I have six of them that I got with engine rebuild kits. They don't fit well and end up leaking at the corners where the hump is or in the hump itself.

the last kit I bought came with extra rubber tabs to insert into the rear and front of the pan. but like I said, that was ~ 10 years ago.
