    A/C parts question?

I was noticing that one of the other vendors has a list of NOS products available. One of those parts is a 84-93 4 Cylinder Mustang accumulator. I was wondering if this part is compatible with the SVO, or is it probably not because it doesn't state 'SVO-specific'? Not exactly sure which bits are SVO specific, and which are generic here. With the IC kind of in the way, I can see it go either way. Thanks.

As I understand it, the early models are different from the 86.

Ugh! So the 84 and/or 85 accumulator is different from the 86?

Now I'm really confused! I did a quick look up of the accumulator for a 84, 85, 86 (SVOs) and 89 (4-cyl LX) on a local parts supplier web page, and they all show the same one. I guess while I have a break in the incessant rain, I'll get out into the shop this afternoon and see what the one on the car looks like.

I believe the early units came with the ac line attached. The 86 was separate and used the spring clip style connection at the accumulator.

Okay. I see now. Went out to the shop and had a look in person. It looks like none of them are correct! The part on the car has a quick-disconnect on the compressor side, and it looks like a flare fitting on the evaporator side. Additionally, the pressure switch is on the accumulator, which none of the parts house units seem to have a provision for. I'll also skip the NOS part, since it supposedly covers all the Fox-body 4 cyl cars. :-/

Thank you for saving me money!!

Not sure I'd ever bother with charging it up, but it would be nice to get newer hoses to get nicer-looking hoses and ends that are rust-free.

I bought one recently off of the E place. Motorcraft YL-1192 is what you're after. E4LY19C836A is the Ford part number. It's the Eaton unit that is the exact replacement. I decided to stay with R12 because from what I've read, the compressors don't work well with R134A.

Jim, the top one IS what we have on the car, and Murray claims the lower one is for dealer installed A/C. So what's the 'E place'? Thank you.

Yeah, I know we have factory A/C on our SVO. The parts house listing is incorrect.
