I'm kinda hoping both yes and no.

More recognition yes, the ignorant saying their "new" SVO is better than the original no.

Basing this on conversations overhead at Mustang car shows where the new stuff outnumbers the classics 99 to 1.

I have been thinking about getting a new car to replacing my aging DD.

Was looking at used Focus RS or an Ecoboost PP mustang (thanks to Daves suggestion)....Then during one of my searches this car shows up on the radar.....

I am really interested... Hope it has Recaros

Hmm, 'new' SVO would be a 'base model'? Wow. Almost as bad as pasting the 'Mustang' emblem on a Pinto...... Oh wait!

I think the possibility of it being an "ST" is more likely to fit in with the rest of the Ford lineup. What engine...flip a coin, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a V6 EB of some size in there. Hopefully they will go with a more balanced front/rear setup than the current GT, yet faster around the track than a properly equipped 2.3L. Looks like we may find out what trick they are hiding up their sleeve...if this isn't just some form of marketing tease to see what kind of reaction they get.

Back when our SVO's came out, it was Marketing that held us back.
Hope if they DO release the SVO nameplate, it's not just a 'marketing stunt'

Info I saw last week was based on info showing that Ford had registered a new VIN digit with the NHTSA for the next model year for a 2nd version of the 2.3L engine in the Mustang. I doubt that we'll see a V6 EB in the current platform since it will be gone in a few years. The next gen platform is to be shared with the new Explorer that is coming later this year, and they have the 3.0L V6 EB which is the same engine family as the 2.7L. So who knows, maybe we will see the V6 EB in the next gen Mustang.

    cheers

Well, not branded as an SVO or an ST, just "2.3L High Performance Package", with a separate "Ecoboost Handling Package" available as an even higher level upgrade. Details on the Ford Media site:

Looks like a fun variant of the new Mustang. Now the big question...what is the price for said fun??

if it's the RS engine, like they say, why does the RS have 350hp, and the mustang only have 330 ?

RS-spec version of the engine has been a bit of a headache. I suspect that they turned down the wick a bit to keep warranty claims down. Bring on the tuners! LOL

Once some part numbers start showing up in the catalogue for head casting, cams, bottom end parts etc. I can compare to the RS and see what mix of parts they've used.

Hopefully they don't use the RS head gasket on this variant, since the RS certainly didn't like the Mustang's head gasket...
