    85.5 engine struts / shocks

    Hi guys,

While lying under my car the other day diagnosing an oil leak, I took notice of the pair of engine struts / shocks that the car has. The driver's side was rusted up and probably seized, the passenger side appeared to be in OK
shape and still functioning. Is there a source to replace these? Or are they best just left alone and unable to fix them?

I've not seen any replacement for these since Ford Obsoleted them.

If you are trying to stay original, clean them up best you can, or see if someone has a used set somewhere.
if you're modded, you can remove them. A lot of people have.

Remember Ford couldn't go all out and get special SVO motor-mounts. Obviously the 200 hp engine was a bit much for the stock soft 100 hp NA 2.3 mounts... so they stole from another ford source (I don't recall where) to help dampen the movement.

I haven't seen any replacements over the years, but I do know the dampeners were made by Suspa a German based company. They have a location in Grand Rapids, MI. It would be interesting to give them a call and see if any replacement exists still in their catalog.

I have pics of mine and believe they had some part numbers on them, will dig them up and post them.

Here is a pic of the engine dampener that was still readable if anyone wants to give Suspa a ring:

OEM service part number was E3SZ-6M046-A, was originally a part number assigned to the 83 T-Bird Turbo Coupe. Doing a bit of Googly searching I came up with this:

    https://www.rearcounter.com/E3SZ-6M0...ts1653469.html

Doesn't show the "A" suffix, but a call or email to the seller could confirm what they actually have.

    cheers

Thanks for that listing heads up! Though doesn't appear that the seller can ship to me here in Canada....
    Will continue my search....

I can understand wanting to remain stock, and replacing the bad damper, but if you are not wanting or needing to stay stock, you can replace the stock motor mounts with the Tbirdcougarparts polyurethane units for ~$175 a set.
