    Led

My 2 year old LED light failed. They can't have 2K on them and I rarely drive at night. The running light in my inner marker is out. The turn signal works but not the running light. Went to order a replacement and they are out of stock till Sept.

That is a bummer, sounds like something in the control board crapped out, maybe from vibration. I doubt the LED itself crapped out, but who knows. Check to make sure the contacts are still good on the bulb and maybe try reseating it? So far, knocking on wood, none of mine have dropped out yet. I too don't do much night-time driving with the lights on.

Bruce, you're sure it's the light? We have a flaky tail light socket in our '10 Tahoe that will just quit working after a while. Sometimes it just comes back on by itself, sometimes, I have to pull the tail light housing, pull and reseat the bulb.

Kind of what Ted said, LEDs tend to last a bit longer than incandescent, unless you get the really cheap bulbs, then humidity and heat can get to the circuitry.

Bruce, any luck with the reseating process??

I just re-read your original post and noticed that you said the turn signal function still worked on the bulb, but not the 'low' light level. I would tend to believe it would be a contact or wiring issue that would cause that rather than the bulb itself, since I would think it would be totally dead if the circuitry on the board fizzled.

The outer signal would work but not the inner light. I re seated it and it started working again. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm about to install the front light housings on the 86. Planning to go LED in an effort to reduce power load on the wiring and heat load on the lenses. Going in with the repro parts so I can save any NOS bits we have in the stash.

Has anyone gone with LED headlights? If so, how are they? I've installed LED on our DD vehicles and tow rig, and really like them. Went with Opt7 lights then, and may go with them again for the SVO, but wondered if the light patterns are any good with LED. Thanks.

I just installed LED's in my headlights and they work great. Paul Becker has them to fit the SVO.

Cool! I didn't know he had them. I'll get with him for a set.

Looks like the Opt7 option is no longer. Either that, or their web store has hidden the options somehow. Not worth the effort to dig up, and I'll support a supporter!

    Thanks.

Paul came through with a set for me! Thanks, Paul!

It looks like you can rotate the bulb to change the pattern, if necessary. Did anyone have to do that?

I put a set in my 2010, the passenger side adjustment was perfect. the drivers side had to be tweaked a bit.

'Tweaked' by re-aiming the headlight, or rotating the LED 'bulb' using the allen wrench included in the light kit?

it don't actually reaim the light -- it just adjusts how the beam hits the mirrors, and how the beam looks on the road.
