Tans Clutch Parts recommended before reinstall

Hi: I pulled the transmission out of my 86 SVO (55k miles) while pulling the engine out and would like some suggestions on what parts in addition to the clutch disk I should consider replacing while it's out. The transmission wasn't having any problems before removal but I figured with the engine having 55k miles on it, replacing the disk made sense. I'm thinking the clutch pilot bearing should also be replaced but is there any other part(s) in the bell housing area I should consider? Thanks

If you replace the clutch, you want to replace the clutch disk, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot bearing and have the flywheel resurfaced. Your bearing retainer if it is galled.

You may want to add new grease to the roller bearing that is in the clutch cable lever.

There's a steel bearing retainer for the SVO that's a nice upgrade. They appear to be no longer produced, but if you can find one, they're a nice update to add now that things are apart. Otherwise, inspect the current retainer, and if galled, replace it with the stock replacement one.

Just wanted to get this info into this thread, as it specifically relates to said subject. Mike (GaboySVO) noted that you can still get the steel bearing retainer now under the Ford moniker or an alternate from Jegs. Here is a quote from that other thread:

    You can find them here:

or you can use this one:

I have the cast iron one in the road warrior.

With the Ford Motorsport number, you can do an interwebs search and likely find alternate pricing. I have been running the FMS style retainer for close to 20 years now w/o any issues for reference.

I'll definitely look into getting the retainer. Thanks
