I've always wondered about the leather and the sunroof on a "comp prep", but the sunroof worried me more.

Why was the sunroof available on comp preps?

Comp Prep, or option 41C, was a regular production option on SVO's as of late in 84. So since there was no clause to make other options, ie sunroof or leather, unavailable you could still order a compr prep with those options.

    Clear as mud???

SCCA and IMSA required showroom stock sunroof cars to be reskinned during those years by either reskinning the roof or riveting on a sheet metal panel to cover the sunroof opening. Funny thing is, they allowed T-Top cars to compete as is.

Chalky's above post made more sense then the logic behind that rule...

Perhaps because comp prep was a good marketing term for a less optioned vehicle that was not selling very well to get the price down. Just a thought..

Although not a Comp Prep, my 84 2A Option Delete from the Pacific Northwest is also a T-top car.

This is very true!! Savy purchasing agents could "keep their floorplan" payment to Ford lower (and have SVO's for sale) less than the dealer down the street.

16K was alot of money for a car in 1986! (There was a slight resession going on on the East Coast. Which also explains why many unsold SVO were "dealer traded" to AZ and WA state! (Intel and Microsoft were booming)

Can you find out if a SVO is a comp prep with just the Vin #?

The firewall on a non air car is different than a car with so it is hard to fake a comp prep.

Kendal, same answer I PM'd to Greg. If the original VIN tag on the door is missing (which denotes the spring codes and radio code) then the best way to confirm is via the firewall. To my knowledge, you could not option delete in '86, so therefore, it is fairly easy to determine "factory" AC vs. "factory" non-AC cars.

I was just hoping that someone had figured out the list of all the comp prep cars and knew what there Vin #'s were.

It would be easier when looking at cars to just ask what the Vin # is and know if it is a comp prep or not.

Hopefully when Kevin Marti has the data base developed on our cars that will become a reality.

Does Kevin offer repo door tags like on earlier model mustangs?
