  • Balljoint wear indicators?

How do you tell on the SVO if the balljoints are worn? Is the zirk fitting the indicator like on other cars?

Should try a search on this subject...but the SVO has no zerk fittings. There is a wear "button" on the bottom of the ball joint that should be extend below the body of the ball joint. If it's flush or indented its on its last legs.

USE THE SEARCH FEATURE. And this thread should be in the suspension section.

But I would say..easy guys...geeezzzz. For a site that asks for memebership $$ you sure are rough. I have been debating on joining but comments like this are deal breakers...

Don't take responses the wrong way....repeating information over and over uses up bandwidth and makes it more difficult to search for correct information if you got 50 hits on the same topic...that is why people stress searching first.

As far as the wrong forum, no biggie...mistakes happen and I moved it for you

...and yes, if you want some entertainment or just to see how fast they will actually ban you for asking the most innocent question try out cornercarvers.com....one of my customers just introduced himself and shared a video of his car and they ran up hits on his site to purposely exceed his bandwidth shutting it down and banned him....all for just saying "hi".

If your ball joints are worn, look for Roberto on here, he can help ya out with machining in new ball joints.

Let's remember too that there is a difference between being a MEMBER of SVOCA and just browsing & posting on the forums. If you haven't paid your dues (well worth the price of admission) then you're NOT a member of SVOCA.

Kj....don't take the comments to heart, I fully understand that sometimes comments by some people here can be taken wrong and perhaps seem slightly rude....but we do have people that just ask for info and don't even take the time to look it up themselves, and also don't contribute, so it gets a little old.

If you want you can post a picture and get some feedback.

Not a problem guys. Just trying to learn about the SVO's.

I popped my head under my car and can see the passenger button sticking out maybe 1/16". The driverside is weird. It has a right-angle zirk fitting in it where the button would be??

Is the control arm witht the zerk fitting a tubular arm or is it a stamped arm?

It's an SVO arm. Kinda scared that someone somehow pulled out the button and threaded a zirk fitting into it??? Strange. More the reason to go to a SN95 setup.

That is an option as well.

But, if you were to pay the $30 membership fee, you could have Roberto 2000 machine your existing arms for new greasable ball joints (installed) with boots for a lot cheaper than converting everything. That way you can enjoy the benifits of the SVO setup.
BTW, I used to live near you off of Lake St. in Hanover Park. But that was over over 20 years ago.

Roger on the membership. This month budget is shot to hell due to a $400 cat vet bill..But yes I see your point.

I really can't decide one which route to go yet. I have a bunch of frontend parts already. At the same time I kinda want to keep the SVO stuff intacked for the coolnest factor. I autox and don't really see a need to upgrade the brakes. I do fine with my 1990 setup on the 83 GT.

Also, what does Roberto charge for this service? Or is that a secret?

I have debated the setup too...but would rather go with Roberto, Fatman or the Motion Dyanmics setup to keep geometry stock.

So did they tap into the "button" with zerk fitting?
